The recognition came through Fleet Advantage’s Kids Around The Corner Foundation (KATC), a program that encourages employees to roll up their sleeves, get involved in their communities, and direct company donations to causes that make a real difference.

A second win for a company focused on giving back.

This is the second time Fleet Advantage has earned an ALAN Humanitarian Logistics Award. The first came back in 2022, when the KATC Foundation received recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Disaster Relief Efforts.

Since 2017, the ALAN Humanitarian Logistics Awards have honored companies and individuals who step up when disasters strike, using logistics and supply chain expertise to get help where it’s needed most. Fleet Advantage and its KATC Foundation were celebrated during ALAN’s 20th anniversary event for their continued commitment to supporting people in crisis.

How Fleet Advantage and KATC made a difference

In 2024, KATC celebrated its 10th anniversary with a record-breaking year of giving.

“In 2024, KATC marked its 10th anniversary and delivered a record-setting year of engagement, supporting 51 nonprofit organizations with $380,425 in donations, including 16 new partnerships, while also engaging employees and partners in eight in-person volunteer events,” FA said. “Fleet Advantage employees and their families actively participated in these initiatives, directly impacting the communities where they live and work.”

That hands-on support came in many forms, including:

Partnering with Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) to deliver emergency aid after Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Serving over 2,000 meals and hygiene kits to people experiencing homelessness during Good Friday and Thanksgiving events with The Caring Place.
Donating more than 100 Easter baskets to children in underserved neighborhoods.
Hosting its largest-ever backpack drive, collecting and distributing 200 backpacks filled with school supplies in partnership with Henderson Behavioral Health.
Continuing work with Junior Achievement of South Florida to expand financial literacy education for students in need.

Altogether, Fleet Advantage’s efforts have added up to over $1 million in charitable giving since the foundation’s start in 2014.

A culture of compassion on and off the road

For a company that’s deeply tied to the trucking and logistics world, Fleet Advantage’s story shows that moving freight isn’t the only way to keep things rolling; sometimes it’s about moving people to act.

Driver Austin Dunaway, who joined Cardinal five years ago, says his driving job offers something new to enjoy every day.

“I drive a 36-foot flatbed with a moffett hauling around building supply materials to homeowners, businesses, and new construction – all that,” says Dunaway. “I do love the flatbed job and riding the moffett. You get something new every day; it’s not just bumping docks or anything like that. You can get out and meet people, get a different route every day but get to be home every night, which is nice.”

“I have been with Cardinal for nine years,” says driver-trainer Leon Jeffcoat. “What keeps me at Cardinal is them keeping their promise.”

Fellow Cardinal driver Jonathan Rivera, who’s been with the carrier for five years, focuses on home time as well. “What originally brought me to Cardinal was home time. I came from a company where I was out three weeks at a time and now I’m home every day, so that’s a big thing,” Rivera says.

“We’re always looking for ways to enhance our drivers’ experiences and feed their future,” said
Mike Franco, Tyson Foods Director of Driver Recruiting. “We are pleased to announce we have
implemented a 4 cents per mile (CPM) across the board pay increase for drivers in our
refrigerated division. This increase, combined with other enhancements, equates to a 10%
increase in our drivers’ earnings. Now, our reefer division drivers can earn $85,000+ per year.”

According to Franco, Tyson Foods continuously monitors driver pay to remain competitive to
both retain current drivers and recruit new drivers into its private fleet.

In addition to the pay increase in the refrigerated division, Tyson Foods has announced an
increase in its safety bonus if all qualifications are met in the calendar year. “This is a
progressive bonus so as long as you’re a safe driver, which means meeting our safety
requirements, your bonus goes up,” says Franco. “For example, for safe driving in the first
quarter, drivers earn an additional 1 CPM; for safe miles in second quarter, drivers earn an
additional 2 CPM, and so on. The bonus increases each quarter up to an added 4 CPM by fourth
quarter. Then the bonus starts over at the start of the next fiscal year. Potential safety bonus
money adds up to $3,300 for the year.”

In 2021, Tyson also added about $6,011 per driver in bonuses, 401(k) and stock matching.

Tyson’s Layover Policy has also been addressed and improved. “The main improvement is that
layover qualifying time has changed from an 18-hour period to a 12-hour period,” says Franco.
“All other requirements remain the same, including the $100 pay out. For example, Tyson Foods
will pay $100 if its company driver is not loaded (or repositioned over 200 miles) within 12
hours of prior scheduled delivery appointment.”

The IRS has increased the per diem allowances based on the increased cost for drivers to live out
on the road. Tyson Foods is passing that savings along to truck drivers by increasing the per
diem allowance by .01 cent per mile, and not taking any cuts.

To give drivers time to rest and catch up on family time, Tyson Foods offers the ability to earn
additional time off. For drivers, this can equate to two additional vacation days in a calendar
year.

Tyson Foods also offers weekly home time, a generous group health plan as low as $15.50/week,
100% no touch freight and much more. To join Tyson’s private fleet, applicants must be at least
21 years old and have at least 9 months of verifiable tractor-trailer experience within the last
year, a valid CDL-A in your state of residence and live within one of the company’s hiring areas.
