The American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) recently held its annual National Convention and Truck Show in York, Pennsylvania. A stunning collection of 875 trucks and trailers were on display, drawing a large crowd of truck enthusiasts.

The York Expo Center proved to be an ideal venue, offering ample space for truck exhibitions, vendor stalls, and informative sessions. “The York Expo Center provided an ideal venue for our event, allowing us to display a wide array of trucks, host vendor booths, and offer educational sessions, all within a convenient location,” remarked Courtney Cesar, ATHS Convention Manager.

Schneider National, a multi-modal transportation and logistics company, has been honored with the National Safety Council’s (NSC) Green Cross for Safety Advocate Award for its pioneering efforts in implementing technology to combat impaired driving.

By receiving the Green Cross for Safety distinction, Schneider becomes the first and only company to achieve all three safety awards from the NSC. The company had previously secured the Green Cross for Safety Innovation Award in 2019 and the Green Cross for Safety Excellence Award in 2018.

The NSC’s Green Cross for Safety Awards recognizes outstanding contributions to advancing safety in workplaces, on roads, and in homes and communities.

“Receiving the safety advocate award is a huge honor,” said Tom DiSalvi, Schneider vice president of safety and training. “At Schneider, our number one core value is ‘Safety First and Always’; it’s this enterprise value that leads us to continue to innovate with both technology and processes to improve highway safety.”

The Safety Advocate Award specifically acknowledges a community partnership, program, individual, or coalition that has significantly impacted safety issues by advocating for proven or promising practices, raising awareness, or influencing policy changes to prevent injuries and fatalities.

Schneider’s noteworthy achievement stems from its status as the first in its industry to conduct a trial deployment of the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) Program’s groundbreaking technology. The DADSS program focuses on researching and developing an innovative alcohol detection technology tailored for commercial motor vehicles.

In their pursuit of real-life testing, the program organizers sought a contributor capable of delivering consistent, reliable data from frequent drivers operating vehicles in various temperatures and under regular and irregular intervals. Schneider National stepped up to the challenge, earning recognition for its commitment to safety innovation.

“We are constantly looking for ways to improve the safety of our drivers and the motoring public,” DiSalvi said. “As the first truck carrier to test the alcohol detection sensors alongside DADSS, we are contributing impactful data that will be used to create a technology that could help eliminate the country’s number one traffic safety problem and save lives.”
