The Mohawk Service Area along Interstate 90 Eastbound in Montgomery County has officially reopened, according to a recent announcement by the New York State Thruway Authority. Conveniently situated between Exit 27 (Amsterdam – NY Route 30) and Exit 26 (Schenectady – Scotia – I-890 – NY Routes 5 & 5S), the revamped rest stop is the latest update in a sweeping redevelopment effort across the Thruway system.

Part of a $450 Million Project

This site marks the 25th service stop to reopen under the $450 million initiative to remodel and elevate all 27 service areas on the New York State Thruway. It’s important to note that this transformation is entirely funded by private investment, with no toll or tax dollars used in the construction.

Frank G. Hoare, Esq., the Executive Director of the Thruway Authority, expressed the importance of this milestone. “We’ve reached another milestone in the service area redevelopment project, as customers can now fully experience new service areas along I-90 from Albany to Buffalo, in both directions,” he shared. “Modernizing our transportation system is a priority for the Thruway Authority to improve the travel experience for customers and enhance safety and reliability.”

Dining and Amenities

Visitors to the Mohawk Service Area can enjoy an array of modern dining options and updated amenities, including:

Food and Beverage Choices

Burger King

Dunkin’ with a convenient drive-thru

Applegreen C-Store

Taste NY Food and Drink Products, showcasing local favorites

Enhanced Amenities

The facility includes features designed to offer comfort and convenience to travelers and their families:

Outdoor seating

A dog walking area

A private nursing area

A digital tourism kiosk

Additionally, four high-speed Level 3 EV chargers are slated to be installed at a later phase, supporting sustainable travel.

Open 24/7 for Your Convenience

The Thruway Authority’s service areas operate around the clock, providing truck drivers and travelers with a reliable place to refuel, grab a bite, or simply take a break. Whether you’re driving a commercial vehicle or a passenger car, you’ll find a variety of food and beverage options, restroom facilities, and fueling stations designed to meet your needs.
