Peterbilt, an iconic name in the trucking industry, is now officially a 2025 Military Friendly Brand (MFB), earning recognition for its steadfast support of military communities.

“We’re proud to be recognized as a Military Friendly Brand,” said Jake Montero, Peterbilt General Manager and PACCAR Vice President. “This honor reflects Peterbilt’s long-standing efforts to build meaningful connections with the military community not only as an employer, but as a brand that stands behind service members and their families through charitable partnerships, outreach programs and initiatives that extend beyond the workplace.”

This badge of honor is awarded to brands demonstrating excellence in culture, policy, and partnerships that genuinely uplift veterans and service families. Peterbilt’s designation reflects their active collaborations with programs like Wreaths Across America and RecruitMilitary, support for veteran training through the Peterbilt Technical Institute, and the ongoing contributions of their Peterbilt Veterans Employee Resource Group.

On Thursday, Peterbilt also reaffirmed its status as a 2025 Military Friendly Employer (MFE) bringing military commitment from branding into hiring and retention efforts.

“Peterbilt has created a space where veterans’ service and talents are valued,” said Christopher Smith, Design Engineer and President of the Peterbilt Veteran Employee Resource Group. “From the employee resource group, to the exclusive veteran-branded hats we wear at work, to special events that celebrate and recognize our team members’ service.”

Lily Transportation has earned special recognition for its outstanding support of homeless veterans. The Veterans Administration’s (VA) Boston Healthcare System honored the company with its Excellence in Community Advocacy Award during the 9th Annual Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Awards Ceremony, held at the VA’s Boston Brockton Healthcare Campus.

This event brings together organizations devoted to helping veterans experiencing homelessness, celebrating groups making a difference across Massachusetts.

Dedicated to Ending Veteran Homelessness

“Lily is committed to helping end and prevent homelessness among veterans,” said Mike Stanton, COO of Lily Transportation. “And we are grateful to The Salvation Army for connecting us with the VA’s mission and their continued support of our partnership with them.”

This honor highlights Lily Transportation’s hands-on approach and lasting involvement with the VA and The Salvation Army. The company’s mission has always included supporting veterans, not only by offering financial backing but also through direct engagement in outreach programs.

Giving Back: Making a Difference in the Community

Lily’s approach goes far beyond writing checks. For instance, the Annual Turkey Drop is one of their projects, where Thanksgiving meals are delivered to families of veterans each year. This hands-on effort helps meet essential needs and strengthens the sense of community.

Averitt associates and customers have once again come together to bring smiles to the faces of children under the care of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Through an annual toy drive, the team has made a meaningful impact for the fifth consecutive year.

“Providing St. Jude with resources of their choosing based on the need of the kids has been such a rewarding experience,” shared Jeff Edwards, Regional Vice President of Sales at Averitt. “We have found that not only do our associates rally behind these drives, but our customers do as well.”

Thousands of Toys, Endless Smiles

The initiative, now in its fifth year, has delivered thousands of toys to brighten the days of children undergoing treatment. What began with a simple Play-Doh drive has since expanded to include items such as coloring books, Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels, and action figures.

The results continue to inspire all involved. For instance, in 2023, Averitt collected and donated 30,000 Hot Wheels cars. Fast forward to 2024, their efforts shifted to dolls and action figures with an astounding total of 10,000 toys gifted to St. Jude.

A Culture of Giving Back

The toy drives are part of Averitt’s larger “Team Up Community Challenge” program. This year-round initiative encourages Averitt associates to engage in service projects within their local communities. Furthermore, Averitt matches its associates’ volunteer hours with contributions made through Averitt Charities, their non-profit organization dedicated to charitable causes.

St. Jude provides guidance each year by sharing a list of needed items, ensuring every contribution is impactful and meaningful. “We started with a Play-Doh drive after Todd Harrett and I visited St. Jude for a check presentation one year. From there, what began locally in Louisville became an initiative in all our region,” said Jimmy Hoskins, Operations Manager at Averitt’s Louisville facility. “We have been amazed at the generosity of our company, our associates, our customers, and our community. Anything I ask our associates to do, they step up because they love the kids.”

Ryder Sets New Benchmark in Charitable Giving with a $1.15 Million Donation to United Way.

Ryder System Inc. has hit a historic milestone in 2024 by contributing a remarkable $1.15 million to United Way, representing the largest donation in the company’s four-decade-long partnership with the nonprofit.

“Each year, Ryder employees show up and demonstrate extraordinary dedication to the United Way,” stated Robert Sanchez, Ryder Chairman and CEO, as well as a former chairman of the board for United Way Miami. “Reaching this new giving record is a testament to their commitment to helping others, and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed. I’d also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to this year’s campaign co-chairs, Kendra Phillips, vice president for transportation management and brokerage, and Bill Dawson, senior vice president & chief of operations, for their exceptional leadership in making this achievement possible.”

This impressive total includes generous employee contributions augmented by a donation from the Ryder Charitable Foundation, according to a press release from the company.

Centered on the theme “Providing Essential Help Right HERE,” the 2024 workplace giving campaign brought Ryder employees together nationwide through a blend of in-person and virtual fundraising events. The campaign embodied the company’s ethos of community service while mirroring United Way’s key initiatives in health & wellbeing, education, resilient communities, and economic mobility.

The funds raised will directly support United Way chapters across the U.S., enabling them to address vital community needs. With these contributions, United Way chapters can continue programs that improve access to education, healthcare, and financial resources—helping build thriving communities where Ryder employees live and work.

“For more than 40 years, Ryder and United Way have partnered to provide essential resources to families in need, and this record-breaking $1.15 million donation ensures we can continue addressing critical challenges and creating a brighter future for our community,” said Symeria Hudson, president and CEO of United Way Miami, the chapter that serves Ryder’s headquarters. “Ryder’s commitment to community-building and philanthropy has a tremendous impact, and their support for United Way makes a difference in the lives of individuals through programs and initiatives that provide access to health & wellbeing, education, resilient communities, and economic mobility.”

Ryder’s extraordinary contribution highlights not only the company’s dedication to philanthropy but also the power of collective employee action in making significant positive changes within local communities.

Estes is driving change—literally. The leading transportation and logistics company has revamped several trailers into moving billboards promoting nonprofits selected by their employees. This effort is part of the “Open Heart, Open Road” campaign, which highlights Estes’ commitment to community partnerships and charitable causes.

Making Awareness Mobile

“By leveraging our presence on roadways all over the country, we’re able to raise awareness and reach more people about important causes,” said Webb Estes, president and COO of Estes. “We look forward to seeing the impact of this new program and letting everyone know about the causes and nonprofits that Team Estes supports and believes in.”

Launching with a Longtime Partner

The first charity to benefit from this campaign is a familiar partner to Estes—the American Diabetes Association. Soon, communities nationwide will see trailers wrapped in vibrant designs highlighting the work of this important organization.

Supporting a Range of Important Causes

The American Diabetes Association isn’t the only nonprofit Estes is championing. Over the next year, additional trailers will feature organizations chosen for their meaningful contributions to society. These include:

Alzheimer’s Association

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

ASPCA

American Cancer Society

National Forest Foundation

Operation Homefront

Bringing the Message to Communities Across the U.S.

These eye-catching trailer wraps will appear in markets nationwide, including Estes’ hometown of Richmond, Va. By combining the power of their nationwide reach with a heartfelt mission, Estes is making a difference one mile at a time.

“Open Heart, Open Road”: More Than Just a Slogan

This campaign illustrates Estes’ steadfast belief in giving back to communities and empowering their teams to champion the causes they care about most.

Stay tuned—you just might see one of these inspiring trailers on the road, sparking awareness and action for nonprofits that change lives every day.

On November 23, volunteers from Lily Transportation and the Salvation Army came together despite rain-soaked skies to deliver Thanksgiving meals to local veterans. The generosity and effort were part of the VA Boston Healthcare System’s annual turkey drive, held at the Jamaica Plain VA in Boston.

“We’ve had a partnership here with Salvation Army and the VA for a few years, and it’s very fulfilling for all of us,” shared Mike Stanton, senior vice president of operations and compliance at Lily Transportation and a veteran himself.

Since joining the effort in 2020, Lily Transportation has worked with the Salvation Army and VA Boston to address food insecurity among local veterans and their families during Thanksgiving. Initially delivering meals to over 100 households, this year the team tripled their effort, distributing meals over two days.

Lily played a pivotal logistical role in the event, as noted in the company’s press release. The week leading up to the turkey drive, they stationed two 18-wheeler freezer trucks to keep the turkeys and accompanying fixings fresh. With the additional help of veteran volunteers within the company, Stanton’s team ensured efficient pickup, sorting, and delivery of food to the designated distribution sites.
