Designed to empower small-to-mid-size brokers, this service equips them to compete more effectively against larger brokers.

“Built for small-to-mid-size brokers, Trucker Path for Brokerages greatly simplifies the process of dispatching, tracking and managing loads awarded to carriers by freight brokers,” said Chris Oliver, Trucker Path’s CMO. “By enabling significantly enhanced visibility into load location and status, it improves productivity and shipper satisfaction and streamlines processes to simplify operations. Trucker Path for Brokerages will help smaller brokers differentiate themselves and compete for carriers and customers like their larger competitors.”

Through the Trucker Path app, brokers gain access to a personalized network of carriers, enabling seamless dispatch of load details directly to drivers and real-time tracking via a user-friendly dashboard. Upon completion of deliveries, drivers can conveniently upload paperwork using the app’s document scanner for immediate processing.

“The value of Trucker Path for Brokerages extends beyond replacing cumbersome, manual, time-consuming and error-prone freight management and paperwork processes for freight brokers and their customers,” Oliver said. “For small to mid-size brokers, it also increases efficiencies and carrier satisfaction.”

In addition to streamlining load management, brokers can leverage the productivity tools already utilized by nearly one million North American truckers. These features include truck-safe navigation, destination guidance, real-time parking availability, and fuel discounts.

“It helps make life on the road safer, easier and more productive for drivers while also helping improve recruiting and retention for brokers,” he said.

RoadFlex, a provider of fleet expense management and fuel card solutions, has introduced two innovative features to its multi-layered security platform, aiming to take a proactive stance against fuel fraud.

One of these features is RoadFlex’s fuel risk management solution, which leverages vehicle location data and mobile driver authentication to ensure that fueling activities are conducted by authorized personnel on the correct vehicles. The newly launched Vehicle Fuel Analysis program further enhances this capability by analyzing transaction data to generate virtual vehicle spending profiles based on individual tractor usage. This real-time contextualization of fleet transactions allows for the prediction of vehicle needs, identification of potential risks, and understanding of maximum transaction risk levels for specific vehicles and drivers. The system triggers an alert for fleet managers if a vehicle refuels with an unusually low mileage between consecutive fueling sessions, indicating a potential anomaly.

Additionally, RoadFlex has introduced a Fuel Risk Analysis Reporting feature, which actively monitors fuel-related risks and preemptively blocks suspicious activities. Rush Akin, RoadFlex’s chief revenue officer, emphasized the effectiveness of these advancements in combating fuel fraud and minimizing fuel loss.

“Now, with our new features, we’ll let you know who and where it could have happened so that you pay more attention in the future in places that tend to be overlooked for fraud,” he said.

RoadFlex’s platform can significantly reduce fuel fraud and associated losses, offering a comprehensive solution to fleet management challenges.

“Fraud can slip through the cracks and go undetected,” he said. “Most fleet operators assume 5 to 10 percent of their fuel spend is fraudulent, and that has been in their budget year after year. From a fuel risk management perspective, we are telling them they don’t have to spend $1 million in fuel fraud when they could be spending that money in a better way.”

Geotab’s beta initiative, launched last year, integrated generative AI models into its platform. The initial project, named Project G, has since evolved into an AI copilot specifically designed for fleets. This AI copilot aims to streamline the analysis of connected vehicle data, reducing the time required to gain insights.

Initially, Project G experimented with a chat interface linked to Geotab Data Connector. Customers could inquire about their fleet data using natural language, similar to the functionality of Chat GPT. However, the beta version faced challenges, such as lacking memory and having limited data access. Geotab addressed these issues in collaboration with fleet customers, resulting in the development of Geotab Ace.

“The two problems that I just spoke of, we solved those,” said Mike Branch, Geotab vice president of data and analytics. “One is that no longer is it only Geotab’s Data Connector data; now you have access to zones, rules, groups, almost everything in MyGeotab, which is really transformational if you think about it. And it’s no longer a goldfish; it has memory, so that same conversation that you’re used to having with Chat GPT, you can have that with Geotab Ace as well.”

Scheduled for an early access release in the second quarter of this year, Geotab Ace processes billions of data points daily. It transforms this data into intelligent insights using conversational AI within the Geotab platform. This empowers fleets to interact more seamlessly with their data and make informed, data-driven decisions. Geotab Ace provides access to a wide array of data, including predictive safety analytics, predictive maintenance, trip data, zone activity, electric vehicle statistics, exception events, GPS tracking, and more.

One notable improvement is that Ace now retains memory of past interactions, enhancing its ability to provide customized answers tailored to specific business needs. The platform also ensures immediate and insightful responses, making it a valuable tool for fleet operations’ success, as Branch emphasized.

“Since kind of time immemorial, I think one of the things that customers are really interested in doing is driving down time to insight,” he said. “We’ve got 50,000 customers across so many different segments. There’s no one-size-fits-all dashboard for everything. So, our hypothesis is that generative AI can really help reduce that time to insight.”

In today’s economic landscape, organizations with transportation fleets play a crucial role in powering the American economy by ensuring the timely delivery of essential goods. These fleets serve as the backbone of our nation’s supply chain, emphasizing the need to prioritize safety and risk management for their sustained health and viability. To address the challenges associated with transporting goods over long distances, an increasing number of companies are turning to advanced safety technologies and telematics as comprehensive solutions.

One of the significant challenges for fleets over the years has been recruiting drivers due to the inherent risks associated with the demanding and perilous nature of heavy-duty truck driving. The job ranks as the seventh most dangerous in America, with approximately 900 fatalities annually, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Recognizing the importance of managing driver risks, fleets are enhancing recruitment strategies by incorporating advanced safety technologies and telematics. The use of these technologies, coupled with data analytics, has bridged the knowledge gap between operations and finance, aiding companies in reducing overall costs and aligning with long-term strategic asset management plans that prioritize advanced safety features in truck specifications.

The escalating risks in the transportation of goods not only pose a threat to driver safety but also impact the bottom line. According to the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), while large truck crashes declined from 2021 to 2022, commercial auto liability premiums are expected to increase in 2023 due to rising costs and poor performance in the previous policy year. Private fleets, too, report a slight increase in DOT Recordable Accidents per million miles, prompting aggressive safety management through driver hiring practices and the adoption of active safety technologies.

Technology and analytics play a crucial role in effective risk management, starting with the pre-hire process and extending to post-hire monitoring of driver behavior. Telematics, cameras, violations, collision history, and maintenance events serve as early warning indicators, with a focus on creating an event-based scoring system. An effective telematics system captures and reports data points by driver, enabling risk managers to make informed decisions about each driver’s overall risk profile.

Investing in newer trucks equipped with advanced safety features is seen as a strategic and competitive move for fleets. Beyond prioritizing driver and road user safety, these upgrades contribute to substantial reductions in accident-related costs. Features such as collision mitigation systems, lane departure warnings, and automatic emergency braking not only enhance safety but also position the company as a lower risk for insurers. Insurance companies increasingly reward organizations that prioritize safety, reflecting a shift from 6.4 cents per mile in premiums in 2013 to 8.8 cents per mile in 2022.

In conclusion, transportation fleets remain pivotal in the current economic landscape. Those that prioritize safety, leverage data analytics, telematics, and invest in newer equipment stand out as competitive leaders. Strengthening communication between finance teams, risk management, and the C-level ensures a comprehensive and effective approach to navigating the challenges associated with the transportation of critical goods.
