The $3.9 million project aims to provide safer, more dependable stops for everyone on the road — especially truckers who rely on rest areas during long hauls. While the site is closed, drivers will need to plan for alternative locations to park, fuel, or take breaks.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer highlighted the importance of this work in Michigan’s larger infrastructure plan: “Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely,” she said. “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired, or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime.”

This closure is part of a broader effort to modernize rest areas across the state, ensuring drivers have safe, updated facilities when traveling Michigan highways. Truckers and other travelers should plan accordingly until the Bay City Rest Area reopens in May 2026.

In Hattiesburg, the new travel stop at the intersection of Interstate 59 and Highway 98 at 283 Ira Hudson Rd. contributes 84 truck parking spaces. This establishment brings essential driver amenities to a previously underserved region lacking a national travel stop.

Hattiesburg, Mississippi

• Facility spans over 10,000 square feet
• Offers 84 truck parking spaces
• Includes Love’s Fresh Kitchen
• Arby’s restaurant available on-site
• Eight diesel fueling bays
• Provides five showers for drivers
• Equipped with laundry facilities
• CAT Scale available
• Dog park for pet convenience

To celebrate these grand openings, Love’s is generously donating $5,000 each to the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center in Wichita and the United Way of Southeast Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
