Truck drivers who go the extra mile don’t always get the spotlight, but the Truckload Carriers Association wants to change that. The nomination window for TCA’s Professional Drivers of the Year award is closing soon, and fleets only have until December 5 to put their top drivers forward.

According to TCA, “When most people think about trucking, they picture the men and women behind the wheel. Our drivers represent your brand, your culture, and your values with every mile. If one of your drivers consistently sets that example, take a few minutes to nominate them to represent your brand and the industry as one of TCA’s 2026 Professional Drivers of the Year.”

For drivers, this recognition is more than a pat on the back. TCA notes that “Nominating your drivers sends a powerful message to your entire fleet that their professionalism is noticed, and that your organization stands behind the people who carry your reputation mile after mile. Fleets that celebrate their drivers consistently see stronger engagement, higher morale, and better retention.”

Only five drivers will be selected as 2026 honorees, and they’ll be recognized on stage at TCA’s Annual Convention in Orlando. Cummins Inc. and Love’s Travel Stops are sponsoring the awards, helping shine a spotlight on the drivers who stand out for safety, professionalism, and commitment to the job. More than a thousand trucking professionals will be in the room when the winners take the stage.

As TCA explains, “It’s a moment that reflects not only on the driver, but on the culture and leadership of the fleet that nominated them.”

Drivers or fleets who want to nominate someone can find the nomination form here.

Being on the road for hours—or days—at a time can take a toll. But when you’re part of a community that truly gets it, you learn that even the smallest things can lift your spirits in a big way. We asked our Truck Drivers USA community: “What’s something that boosts your mood no matter what kind of day you’re having?” And the responses? Honest, heartfelt, and a reminder of the simple joys that make life behind the wheel a little brighter.

Here’s what real drivers said:.

1. Family First, Always

For so many drivers, family is the ultimate mood booster.

Marie Doolin keeps going thanks to her grandkids.

April T Edwards finds joy in her grandbabies and a cup of coffee.

Maddison Kiesten Speaks shared that quality time with her kids and loved ones always lifts her spirits.

Stephen Michael Briles brightens up just thinking about or talking to his wife.

Mark Billings, Jeffery Pope, Dan Swiercek, Andy Axelson, Janie Rucker, and Carmen W. Ronca Sr.? All of them mentioned grandkids.

Robert John Ployer simply said: “Believe it or not, my wife. I love you, babe.”

When the road gets long, love from home makes all the difference.

2. Man’s Best Friend (And Furry Friends of All Kinds)

Animals have a special way of making any day better.

Elisa Renaud, John Echarte, and Frank Perrote all mentioned their dogs.

Brenda Sprankle gets her boost from her cat.

Joseph Blanco gave a shoutout to his schnauzer.

Anita Hersh? Her dogs! Enough said.

Daniel Hennepin simply said: “Seeing my pup.”

Richard Barton finds joy in his friend’s dogs.

3. Coffee, Music, and Good Vibes

It’s the little routines that ground us—and for many drivers, coffee and music are everything.

Dennis Lawson, Jimmy Bowen, Wageha Rabie, and Redd Lion are all about the coffee life.

Jack Peterson writes and listens to his own music every day.

CJ Simpson, Thomas A Randall Sr., and Drpeppercis Jesus shared their love for country and gospel

Michael Mercier shifts his day with easy listening to 70s rock.

J. O’Malley is all about The Grateful Dead.

Dave Patterson gets a laugh with George Carlin on CD.

Foster Christensen says “ANY Doors song” will do the trick.

4. Humor, Honks, and Human Connection

From CB radio banter to a child’s simple request, these are the moments that remind drivers why they love the road.

Warren McInnis loves it when a kid asks him to honk the horn.

Tom Bonura and James Grafton get their laughs from CB radio antics, especially in the early hours.

Becky Bunting, Diane Burris, and Patty LeBlanc Gay mentioned the power of a phone call or being outside.

Linda Pieper said it best: “A smile and a helping hand.”

5. Faith, Gratitude, and Perspective

Some drivers find their boost in faith and reflection.

Jeremiah Lieberum said it simply: “Prayer!!”

James Harrison offered a deeper message about gratitude and being thankful for every day.

Thomas Dulaney is just thankful “that I woke up to another day.”

Joann Brower? “The Word.”

6. Just the Simple Joys

And then, there are those little things that speak volumes:

Donald Romano loves a hot shower and free parking.

Phil McCray gets his lift from going off duty—“At home. With a beer.”

Donald Watson enjoys a curvy back road.

Susan Strahm appreciates pleasant weather.

Philip Ormond unwinds with a ride on his old Kawasaki.

Toni Wilson? “Laughter.”

Crystal Dahlman loves night drives with cruise control and no traffic.

Race Axtell finds relief in exercise.

Final Thoughts

Life on the road comes with plenty of challenges—but as this incredible list shows, joy doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether it’s the voice of a grandchild, a favorite song, a steaming mug of coffee, or a furry co-pilot curled up in the passenger seat, the small stuff really does make a big difference.

If you’re a driver out there reading this, maybe this blog reminded you of the things that keep your spirits high. And if it did—share it with someone else who could use a lift today.
