The C500 held a place in Kenworth’s lineup for five decades. The C580 now takes over that role with updated cab architecture, expanded technology integration, and configurations aimed at demanding jobsite environments.

Built for Remote and Extreme Applications

“These trucks have been to the Arctic in the oilfields; in Borneo hauling logs and coal; in Asia transporting massive mining equipment; and deep in the Amazon hauling transformers,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “They’ve gone where no other truck could go, and now the new C580 will do the same.”

The C580 is engineered for high-horsepower, heavy-haul, and specialized vocational work. It is designed to operate in stationary applications, high-altitude conditions, and extreme heat.

Cab Updates and Driver-Focused Technology

Although purpose-built for extreme-duty work, the C580 incorporates design elements seen in other vocational models, such as the T880.

Updates include:

• A larger windshield for expanded visibility
• An optimized hood slope
• Increased space between seats compared to the C500
• A customizable 15-inch digital display consolidating gauges and critical information

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are available to support safety. The truck also integrates TruckTech+ Remote Diagnostics, providing real-time data on vehicle health and operational status.

Powertrain and Cooling Capacity

The C580 comes standard with EPA-compliant Cummins X15 engines, rated up to 605 horsepower and 2,050 lb-ft of torque.

Transmission options include:

• Manual transmissions
• Allison 4000 and 6000 Series automatic transmissions
• Eaton Endurant XD Pro automated transmission, marking its first appearance in the extreme-duty segment

A 1,780-square-inch cooling module is designed to support high-output operations. The chassis features full-length parent frame rails extending to the front to support FEPTO capability for specialized vocational applications.

Standard dual 13-inch cowl-mounted External Regional Air cleaners are included for service access and performance.

Axle Configurations and Capacity

The C580 is available in both single- and twin-steer axle configurations. Front-drive axle options allow for 4×4, 6×6, 8×8, and 10×10 setups.

Axle ratings support up to:

• 44,000 pounds on twin-steer axles
• 165,000 pounds on tandem rear axles

With these specifications, the C580 enters the market as Kenworth’s latest platform for heavy vocational, off-road, and severe-duty applications.
