On May 21, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) delisted two electronic logging devices (ELDs), Blue Star ELD and ELD Mandate Plus.

Consequently, drivers and carriers using these devices are mandated to stop using them and resort to paper logs or alternative logging software for recording hours of service data until the ELDs can be replaced by registered devices.

These non-compliant devices must be replaced with ELDs from the approved list by July 20. Currently, 24 ELDs on FMCSA’s revoked devices list remain unlisted despite the agency’s revoking them earlier in the year.

FMCSA did not specify the reasons behind the removal, citing a general failure to meet the minimum requirements set in the regulations for ELDs. Ratan Baid, CEO of ELD Mandate, expressed commitment to resolve any deficiencies or issues in their software to regain compliance.

However, there has been no response from Blue Star ELD regarding their plans to address the issues with their device. Motor carriers are granted a 60-day window to transition to compliant ELDs. If the identified deficiencies that led to the revocation are resolved within this period, FMCSA will reinstate the ELDs on the registered devices list.

During this transition period, safety officials are advised not to penalize drivers using these delisted ELDs. Instead, they should request alternative records like paper logs or logging software.

However, post the deadline of July 20, continued usage of revoked devices will result in citations and drivers being placed out-of-service.
