Truck drivers and carriers using 12 electronic logging devices recently removed from FMCSA’s registered list have until July 20 to switch to compliant systems before the devices create hours of service problems during inspections.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced the removals this week as part of its continued review of electronic logging devices that no longer meet federal requirements. The latest action follows three additional ELD removals announced earlier this month.

Motor carriers using the revoked devices must stop relying on them and replace them with compliant ELDs from FMCSA’s registered device list before the deadline. During the transition, carriers may revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.

Drivers Using Revoked Devices Could Be Placed Out of Service

FMCSA said drivers who continue using the revoked ELDs on or after July 20 will be considered in violation of 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1), which covers failing to maintain a proper record of duty status.

Those drivers may also be placed out of service under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance out-of-service criteria.

The deadline gives carriers a limited window to replace affected systems, train drivers on the new device, and make sure records can be transferred properly during roadside inspections.

Revoked Devices Could Return if Providers Fix Deficiencies

FMCSA said an ELD provider may be returned to the registered device list if the company corrects all identified deficiencies.

If that happens, FMCSA said it will notify the industry and enforcement personnel that the device has been restored to the list.

Even with that possibility, the agency strongly encouraged motor carriers to begin replacing revoked systems now rather than waiting to see whether a provider corrects the issue before July 20.

What Drivers Should Know Before the Deadline

The main risk for drivers is continuing to rely on a device that enforcement officials no longer recognize as compliant after the deadline.

Drivers using affected ELDs should confirm whether their carrier has a replacement plan, whether paper logs or logging software will be used during the transition, and when the new system will be ready before the July 20 compliance date.

Waiting until the final days could create avoidable problems during roadside inspections, especially if drivers are not familiar with the replacement system or backup logging method.

Three more electronic logging devices have been removed from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s approved ELD registry, leaving affected truck drivers and carriers with a limited window to switch to compliant systems before enforcement begins.

FMCSA placed the Safe ELD platform for both iOS and Android, along with the MyLogs ELD, into revoked status after determining the devices failed to meet federal technical requirements tied to ELD regulations.

The removals are part of FMCSA’s ongoing effort to eliminate noncompliant devices from the federal registry.

“Since January 2025, FMCSA has taken decisive action — removing 67 noncompliant devices that failed to meet federal standards — to protect the integrity of the ELD program, and we will continue to identify and remove any device that falls short,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs.

For carriers and drivers currently using the affected systems, July 7 is the key deadline.

Drivers Must Transition to Compliant Logging Systems

Motor carriers have up to 60 days to replace the revoked devices with compliant ELDs. Until replacements are installed, drivers using the affected systems are required to track hours of service records through paper logs or approved logging software.

FMCSA said enforcement officers are being encouraged not to issue citations for no-logbook violations or for failure to use a registered ELD before July 7, as long as drivers can still provide valid hours-of-service documentation through backup records.

During inspections, officers may request paper logs, logging software records, or ELD display information while carriers complete the transition process.

After July 7, however, drivers and carriers continuing to use the revoked systems may be treated as operating without a compliant ELD during roadside inspections and enforcement actions.

FMCSA Encourages Carriers Not To Wait

According to FMCSA, the devices were removed because the companies failed to meet minimum technical requirements established under federal ELD regulations tied to Part 395 compliance standards.

Questions sent to the ELD providers regarding the revocations and plans reportedly went unanswered as of publication.

FMCSA also noted the devices could potentially return to approved status if the providers correct the identified deficiencies. If that happens, the agency said it would restore the devices to the approved registry and notify the industry.

Still, regulators are encouraging carriers to move forward with replacements now rather than risk future compliance issues tied to revoked systems.

For truck drivers, the latest removals highlight how quickly ELD compliance status can change as FMCSA continues reviewing devices listed on the federal registry.

Electronic logging devices are not optional for most carriers running under federal hours of service rules. When a device falls out of compliance, the impact lands directly on drivers and fleet managers. This week, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced that nine ELDs have been removed from its list of registered devices.

For owner operators, small fleets, and safety departments, this means immediate action to avoid violations and potential out-of-service orders.

FMCSA Confirms Removal of 9 ELDs

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has officially placed nine devices on its Revoked Devices list. According to the agency, the affected companies failed to meet minimum technical standards outlined in federal regulations under Title 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395.

FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs made the agency’s position clear.

“If an ELD isn’t meeting federal requirements, it’s taken out of service — plain and simple,” said Derek Barrs, FMCSA administrator. “We’ll keep making clear, fair decisions that put safety first and support everyone who shares America’s roadways.”

When a device is revoked, it is no longer considered compliant for federal hours of service recordkeeping.

List of Revoked ELD Devices

The following devices have been removed from the FMCSA Registered Devices list:

Global Telecommunication Services Inc.
Device Name: GTS ELD
Model Number: 213W01
ELD Identifier: GTS18A

UTRUCKIN INC
Device Name: UTRUCKIN
Model Number: PT30
ELD Identifier: UTRUCK

ELD365
Device Name: ELD365 ELOG
Model Number: ELD365 (f/k/a ELOG365)
ELD Identifier: ELD365

IRONMAN ELD
Device Name: IRONMAN ELD
Model Number: IRON300
ELD Identifier: IRM881

HOST ELD LLC (f/k/a FACTOR ELD)
Device Name: FACTOR ELD
Model Number: FACTORELD1
ELD Identifier: FRELD1

Aireld Technologies
Device Name: AirELD
Model Number: Android & Xirgo 6300 Series
ELD Identifier: ARELD1

Aireld Technologies
Device Name: Air ELD
Model Number: iOS & Xirgo 6300 Series
ELD Identifier: ARELD2

Aireld Technologies
Device Name: AirELD
Model Number: Android & PT30
ELD Identifier: ARELD3

Aireld Technologies
Device Name: AirELD
Model Number: iOS & PT30
ELD Identifier: ARELD4

Drivers and carriers currently using any of these devices must transition to a compliant solution within the timeline provided by FMCSA.

What Carriers Must Do Now

Motor carriers have up to 60 days from the date of removal to replace the revoked ELDs with compliant devices listed on the FMCSA Registered Devices list. The agency has outlined specific steps.

Carriers must:

Discontinue using the revoked ELDs

Revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data

Replace revoked devices with compliant ELDs before April 14

Until April 14, enforcement guidance instructs safety officials not to cite drivers using revoked devices under 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) for no record of duty status or 395.22(a) for failing to use a registered ELD. Instead, officers should request paper logs, logging software records, or use the ELD display as a backup method to review hours of service data.

Beginning April 14, drivers still operating with one of the revoked devices may be cited under 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) and placed out of service under Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance criteria.

Why This Matters for Drivers and Fleets

For owner operators, a revoked ELD can quickly turn into lost time and revenue if not addressed. An out-of-service order tied to hours of service documentation affects delivery schedules, CSA scores, and carrier reputation.

For safety directors and compliance managers, reviewing device status against the FMCSA Registered Devices list should now be part of routine internal audits. Devices can be reinstated if deficiencies are corrected, but FMCSA has strongly encouraged carriers to act immediately rather than wait for possible reinstatement.

If an ELD provider corrects all identified deficiencies, FMCSA will restore the device to the registered list and notify the industry.

In the meantime, drivers and fleet managers should verify their current ELD model and identifier against the official FMCSA database.

A previously revoked electronic logging device has been cleared for use again, just days after being removed from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s approved ELD registry.

On January 13, FMCSA announced that it had revoked approval for four electronic logging devices after determining they failed to meet federal requirements. One of those devices, DSGELOGS, has since been reinstated.

FMCSA confirmed that DSGELOGS, listed as Model Number DSGELOGS1 with ELD Identifier DSGEL1, was restored to approved status on January 15.

“Motor carriers and drivers may now use DSGELOGS to record and transfer hours-of-service data,” FMCSA wrote in an email.

Three ELDs remain revoked.

While DSGELOGS has been reinstated, the other three devices removed on January 13 remain off FMCSA’s approved list.

Those devices are:

PREMIERRIDE LOGS, Model Number 1RIDE, ELD Identifier PRD391

STATE ELOGS, Model Number ST8-E, ELD Identifier STE384

STATE ELOGS 2, Model Number PT-30, ELD Identifier STE384

FMCSA has not disclosed specific technical failures for any of the four devices. The agency stated only that the ELDs were revoked for “failure to meet the minimum requirements” outlined in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395. Those regulations establish the functional and technical specifications all ELDs must meet.

What drivers using revoked ELDs need to do now.

Drivers and carriers currently operating with one of the three remaining revoked devices have a limited window to transition.

FMCSA has set a compliance deadline of March 15. Drivers using any of the still-revoked ELDs must replace them with a compliant device listed on FMCSA’s approved registry by that date.

If a revoked device is still in use after March 15, drivers will be considered to have no valid record of duty status and may be placed out of service during enforcement inspections.

Until the deadline arrives, FMCSA advises drivers using revoked devices to “revert to using paper logs or logging software” to continue recording hours-of-service data.

Reinstatement is possible but uncommon.

FMCSA allows ELD providers to regain approval if “the ELD provider corrects all identified deficiencies.” However, the agency cautions carriers not to rely on reinstatement.

FMCSA said it “strongly encourages” carriers to replace revoked devices proactively, “if the deficiencies are not addressed by the ELD providers.”

While reinstatement does happen occasionally, it is rare. The most recent example before DSGELOGS occurred in May 2024, when Blue Star ELD was returned to the approved list one day after being revoked.

That case stands out because reinstatements are the exception, not the rule. Over the past year, FMCSA revoked 38 ELDs, and none of those devices were restored to approved status.

Why this matters for drivers and fleets

ELD compliance remains a high-priority area for enforcement, and using a revoked device carries serious operational risk. Even short delays in replacing noncompliant ELDs can lead to out-of-service violations, lost revenue, and inspection complications.

For drivers, the reinstatement of DSGELOGS provides immediate clarity. For everyone else still using revoked devices, the March 15 deadline is firm, and contingency planning is critical.

Carriers are encouraged to regularly check FMCSA’s approved ELD list and communicate clearly with drivers when compliance status changes.
