Pilot is stepping up to support communities ravaged by Hurricane Helene by utilizing its extensive network of travel centers. Through an in-store round-up effort benefiting the American Red Cross, Pilot is dedicated to reinforcing relief missions. This campaign is part of a larger initiative where Pilot is donating $300,000, dedicating $100,000 to Red Cross Hurricane Helene relief and the remaining $200,000 to local nonprofits in the most impacted areas.

From October 4 to October 18, customers at any Pilot, Flying J, and One9 travel center nationwide are encouraged to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar. Every cent raised will go towards bolstering Red Cross efforts in the Southeast regions affected by the hurricane.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the countless individuals, families and communities, including our own team members, experiencing the utterly devastating effects of Hurricane Helene,” expressed Julius Cox, Pilot’s chief people officer. “Pilot is profoundly thankful to our team members and emergency personnel for all they are doing to support the affected communities. We are working around the clock to ensure our stores are open and able to provide essentials like fuel and food as we start down the road to recovery together.”

In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Pilot is prioritizing the safe and swift resumption of services to meet the needs of affected communities and emergency workers. As of now, all Pilot, Flying J, and One9 travel centers are operational, including in severely affected locations. For current updates on store operations in these areas, please visit pilotflyingj.com/operational-updates.

Motive, an AI-powered operations platform, has introduced “Missed Savings,” a groundbreaking feature designed to help Motive Card users significantly reduce their fuel expenses by up to 5% or more.

According to Hemant Banavar, Vice President of Financial Products at Motive, “The cost of doing business has never been more expensive — in large part due to high and varying fuel costs,” said Banavar. “On top of that, spend management data lives in hard-to-access, disparate systems that are time-consuming to analyze. Businesses are wasting millions of dollars on missed fuel savings per year because they don’t have access to the data needed to make smarter fuel decisions.”

How It Works

The new feature allows fleet managers to automatically identify where drivers are missing out on fuel savings and how much these missed opportunities are costing the business. With detailed, data-driven insights, fleet managers can direct drivers to the most cost-effective fueling locations rather than relying on habitual or convenient stops.

“With this new offering, Motive is the only fleet card delivering automated insights to empower managers to control spend, better manage and coach drivers, and achieve up to 5% or more in savings,” Banavar said. “With fuel expenditure for the trucking industry around $134 billion annually, we estimate the trucking sector alone missed out on approximately $6.7 billion in potential fuel savings last year.”

Exclusive Benefits for Motive Card Users

Available exclusively to Motive Card customers, the Missed Savings feature uses combined fleet and spend management data to pinpoint areas of wasteful fuel spending automatically. Early user data indicates that some fleets miss out on savings equating to 5% of their total fuel expenditure. For instance, a fleet with 1,000 vehicles spending $1 million monthly on fuel could potentially save $50,000 each month or $600,000 annually.

Maximizing Savings

Motive’s integrated fleet and expense management tools allow fleets to optimize savings using the Motive Card partner network. By leveraging comprehensive vehicle location and fuel price data, Motive compares fuel prices at different stations and provides automated reports and recommendations. These insights enable fleet managers to identify drivers who consistently overspend on fuel and take corrective action, such as coaching or restricting card usage to more affordable stations. Converting these missed opportunities into real savings is now more achievable than ever.

For fleet managers looking to cut costs and improve efficiency, the Motive Card with its Missed Savings feature offers a clear path to smarter fuel spending and substantial savings.

Diesel fuel prices in the United States are experiencing an upward trend, reaching levels above $4 per gallon in certain regions after weeks of relative stability.

Based on the most recent data provided by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the national average price for a gallon of diesel fuel is currently $3.867. This marks an increase from the previous average of $3.838 per gallon reported on January 22.

Regional variations depict a mixed scenario across the country. On the East Coast, the average diesel price has surpassed $4 for the first time since January 1, registering at $4.043 per gallon compared to $3.979 on January 22.

California holds the record for the highest average diesel price at $5.078 per gallon, albeit experiencing a slight decrease from the previous average of $5.092 on January 22.

In contrast, the Gulf Coast boasts the most budget-friendly diesel prices in the nation, averaging at $3.644 per gallon. This represents a slight decrease from the January 22 average of $3.684 per gallon.

Meanwhile, the West Coast (excluding California) has seen a resurgence in diesel prices, rising above $4 per gallon once more. The current average stands at $4.011, up from $3.992 on January 22.

In the Rocky Mountain Region, prices show a unique twist, down by .051 from the previous week. The average diesel price in this region has decreased by 1.097 from this time last year, marking the most substantial decrease among all regions.

On average, diesel prices across all regions are down by 0.755 from this time last year.

These fluctuations in diesel prices underscore the dynamic nature of the fuel market, prompting drivers and businesses to stay vigilant in monitoring and adapting to the evolving cost landscape.

The latest fuel report indicates a continued trend of decreasing gas and diesel prices across most regions.

According to ProMiles.com, the national average price per gallon of diesel stood at $3.851 on Monday, Jan. 22, marking a slight decrease from the previous week’s $3.856. It’s noteworthy that ProMiles’ approach, utilizing a direct feed from numerous truck stops, differs from the federal Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) weekly report, which relies on surveys from 400 truck stops and convenience stores nationwide.

The West experienced the most significant declines, with the West Coast region leading with an 8-cent drop. California followed closely with a 6.9-cent decrease, and both the Rocky Mountain and West Coast (excluding California) regions saw dips ranging from 4 to 5 cents.

In terms of increases, the Gulf Coast saw a rise of 2.6 cents, and the Midwest reported a modest 1-cent jump. The Lower Atlantic and East Coast regions reported increases of less than 1 cent.

As reported by ProMiles.com, the average U.S. diesel price on Jan. 22 was $3.851, while AAA cited a retail average U.S. price of $3.905 for the same date. This reflects a decline from the previous week’s average of $3.927. Looking back, a month ago, AAA reported $4.029 per gallon of diesel, and a year ago, the figure was $4.621 per gallon.

EIA’s Jan. 22 report showed a national price per gallon for diesel decreased by 2.5 cents to $3.838. Notably, this marks a 76.6-cent reduction compared to the same week last year.

In regional terms, all fuel prices saw a decline, with the West Coast (excluding California) experiencing the most significant drop at 9.1 cents. The West Coast, Rocky Mountain, and California regions reported decreases of 7.2, just under 6, and 5 cents, respectively.

Diesel prices in the United States have continued their downward trend, marking the eighth consecutive week of declines, according to the latest report from the Energy Information Administration on Dec. 18. A notable drop of 9.3 cents per gallon has brought the national average price to $3.894, the lowest it has been in the past five months.

Key Points

Regional Price Movements:

Two additional regions have now dipped below the $4 mark, with the East Coast reaching $3.969 and the Rocky Mountain region at $3.933.

The West Coast, particularly in California, remains at the higher end of the national average range, with prices at $4.655 and $5.231, respectively.

All 10 regions experienced declines over the past week, with the West Coast-less-California region leading the decrease with a drop of 15.7 cents.

Gasoline Price Movement:

Gasoline prices are also on the decline, with an 8.3-cent drop bringing the national average to $3.053 per gallon.

Four of the 10 regions now have a sub-$3 average price, with the Gulf Coast leading the way at $2.547 per gallon.

While some regions continue to experience higher prices, the overall trend of declining fuel costs is welcomed news for truckers and consumers alike. The sustained decrease in diesel and gasoline prices reflects a positive economic outlook as we approach the close of the year.

ProMiles.com’s latest fuel report, published Nov. 28, highlighted a continued decline in fuel prices, marking the fourth consecutive week of this downward trend. According to ProMiles, the national average for a gallon of diesel now stands at $4.195, indicating a 7-cent reduction from the previous week.

ProMiles and the federal Energy Information Administration (EIA) both produce weekly reports, but a key distinction lies in their methodologies for calculating averages. While ProMiles directly sources data from thousands of truck stops, the EIA relies on surveys from 400 truck stops and convenience stores across the nation. Despite this difference, both reports offer the average diesel price for the preceding week.

Regionally, all areas experienced a decrease, with the Midwest witnessing the most substantial decline of 10.1 cents. The Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountain, West Coast without California, West Coast, and California regions all saw decreases ranging from 7 to 8.2 cents.

As of Nov. 27, the average U.S. price for a gallon of diesel reported by ProMiles.com was $4.195, reflecting a 7-cent decrease. Notable regional averages include the Midwest at $4.119 (down 10.1 cents), the Gulf Coast at $3.804 (down 8.1 cents), and the West Coast at $5.158 (down 7 cents).

AAA’s report on the same day noted a retail average U.S. diesel price of $4.229, down from $4.283 per gallon the previous week. Comparatively, a month ago, AAA reported $4.497 per gallon, and a year ago, the price was $5.228 per gallon. The highest recorded retail average U.S. diesel price was $5.816 per gallon on June 19, 2022.

EIA’s report showed a national decrease of 6.3 cents, bringing the diesel price to $4.146 per gallon. This marks a significant drop from the previous year, with the national average for the week being 99.5 cents less than it was one year ago. Regional variations include a 9.2-cent drop in the Midwest, an 8.1-cent decline in the West Coast less California region, and a 7.2-cent decrease in the West Coast region. The Central Atlantic saw the smallest change, with a drop of less than 1 cent in fuel pricing.

The downward trend in the pricing of diesel fuel in the United States continues.

As per the latest report released on Nov. 6 by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the current national average stands at $4.366, marking a notable decline from $4.454 recorded on Oct. 30 and an even more significant drop from the $4.545 figure observed on Oct. 23.

Across all regions of the United States, average diesel fuel prices have reflected a consistent and steady decline. The Gulf Coast enjoys the lowest prices, with a cost of $4.032 per gallon, while California bears the highest-burden at $5.816 per gallon.

In New England, the average price rests at $4.523, while in the Midwest, it sits at $4.335, as reported through data collected by the EIA.

According to statements from various companies and assessments by oil analysts, refiners in the industry are scaling back their operations, partly due to less favorable fuel profit margins and the necessity for plant maintenance activities to optimize operational efficiency.

“Refinery executives are aiming for low-90s utilization rates this quarter after running in the mid-to-upper 90% range most of the year,” according to news agency Reuters. “A pullback for seasonal maintenance and a greater shift to producing distillates have reduced production, according to company executives, analysts and U.S. government data.”

Despite this, production levels are anticipated to remain sufficient to keep fuel prices in check, given that demand is not outpacing the production adjustments, as highlighted by analysts. Refiners have persisted in high gasoline production rates to meet the demand for distillates, with the industry standard being the production of two barrels of gasoline and one of diesel for every three barrels of crude oil processed.

“Guidance has been generally within our expectations of seasonally softer levels due to the pullback in gasoline demand,” Matthew Blair, head of refiners, chemicals, and renewable fuels research at investment firm Tudor, Pickering, Holt, and Co., told Reuters.
