In a bold move to prioritize its workforce, Averitt has rolled out the largest regional driver pay raise in its 54-year history. The company, which employs over 8,000 team members across its network, confirmed the new compensation updates on Thursday.

For regional drivers holding a hazmat endorsement, pay now jumps to 64 cents per mile—marking a record-setting increase for that division.

“It is important to us to reward our associates with competitive pay, quality benefits, and meaningful opportunities,” said Barry Blakely, Averitt’s president and chief operating officer. “We believe in investing in our people, because they are the foundation of everything we do.”

But the changes don’t stop with regional drivers. The pay boosts extend across various roles within the less-than-truckload (LTL) segment of Averitt’s business. Local pickup and delivery drivers, nighttime shuttle drivers, dockworkers, preventive maintenance technicians, and others in operational roles are all seeing adjustments to their compensation.

This announcement aligns with ongoing trends in the trucking industry. According to the 2025 Operational Costs of Trucking report by the American Transportation Research Institute, driver wages and benefits continue to climb steadily year after year. As of 2025, those combined costs now make up nearly 99.5 cents of every mile driven—an increase of over 55% since 2015.

By responding to industry shifts and reaffirming its commitment to employees, Averitt is positioning itself as a strong contender in both recruiting and retention in today’s highly competitive logistics environment.
