Two of the largest names in trucking, Volvo Trucks North America and Mack, have issued recalls after discovering a defect related to steering performance.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects nearly 2,500 Volvo VN trucks from model years 2025–26, along with several dozen 2025 Mack Anthems and 2025–26 Mack Pioneers.

At the center of the recall is a problem with the dynamic steering and oversteer guidance feature. The system, designed to help stabilize steering, may malfunction. If the guidance corrects an oversteer input, it could continue pulling the wheel in the opposite direction instead of stopping once balance is restored.

This malfunction raises a serious risk: if the driver doesn’t immediately counteract the steering, control of the truck could be lost. There are currently no warning indicators to alert drivers if their truck has the defect.

Both manufacturers identified the issue in July and launched an investigation. So far, there’s been only one field report related to the defect, and no accidents, injuries, or warranty claims have been tied to the problem.

As of August 11, the recommended fix is to disable the oversteer guidance feature. Volvo and Mack are addressing this through over-the-air software updates. In addition, the feature has already been removed from all new truck orders going forward.

Owners of affected trucks will begin receiving official recall notices on October 5. Both manufacturers also have reimbursement programs in place to cover repairs that may have been completed before the recall was issued.

For questions, owners can contact:

Mack customer service at 800-866-1177, recall number SC0483

NHTSA recall numbers are 25V520 for Volvo and 25V521 for Mack.

Mack Trucks has announced a recall for specific models due to electrical system issues, according to notices from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Details of the Recall

The recall affects certain 2025 Mack Anthem and Granite trucks. The issue stems from power cables that may have been improperly routed, which could potentially lead to an electrical short.

According to the recall notice, Mack Trucks, Inc. will re-route the power cables at no cost to the owners. Notification letters were sent to affected owners on June 16, 2025. For more information, owners can contact Mack’s customer service at 1-800-866-1177, referencing recall number SC0480.

Additionally, Mack is recalling specific 2024-2026 Mack MD models. The issue with these vehicles involves the Controller Area Network (CAN) system. If CAN communications are interrupted, the throttle signal from the electro mobility control unit may retain the last known throttle setting, preventing the engine from returning to idle as required. This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 124, “Accelerator Control Systems.”

To address this, Mack dealers will update the control unit software free of charge. Notification letters for this recall are scheduled to be mailed on August 19, 2025.

For further assistance, affected owners are encouraged to contact Mack’s customer service at the number provided above.

Tens of thousands of Mack and over 100,000 International trucks are involved in a significant recall concerning Bendix electronic control units (ECUs). This action is part of Bendix’s extensive recall impacting hundreds of thousands of ECUs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that more than 60,000 Mack trucks—from model years 2020 to 2025, including the Anthem, Granite, Pinnacle, and TerraPro—are being recalled due to issues with Bendix EC80 Advanced ECUs. Problems such as electrical interference and inadequate power line signals may lead the ECU to misinterpret commands or cease functioning altogether.

International Motors is also recalling over 105,000 trucks for similar reasons. The impacted models include:

2021-2025 HV

2021-2025 HX

2021-2024 LoneStar

2021-2025 LT

2021-2025 MV

2022 ProStar

2021-2025 RH

These malfunctions in the Bendix ECU could impair critical safety functions like automatic traction control, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), electronic stability control, active cruise control, and collision mitigation systems, thereby heightening crash risks.

The faulty EC80 ECUs are primarily installed in “towing vehicles.” Bendix utilizes a power line carrier network enabling communication between tractor and trailer through an electrical signal. This signal is prone to failure, particularly in trucks towing multiple trailers compared to those with a single trailer.

Mack Trucks has documented 55 warranty claims as of October 30th, where the ABS light activated, causing the system to go “offline” without affecting other safety features. Fortunately, no field reports, accidents, or injuries have been linked to the Bendix ECU malfunction so far.

Authorized dealers will offer free reprogramming of the affected Bendix ECU software. Mack truck owners will receive notification letters on December 13, while International truck owners can expect theirs on December 23.

This recall is part of a broader issue initiated on October 11, affecting over 400,000 ECUs distributed to Volvo Trucks and Navistar. Volvo has already recalled nearly 127,000 trucks featuring these ECUs.

For detailed information about the Mack recall, contact customer service at 800-866-1177 with recall number SC0472. NHTSA’s reference for this recall is 24V-792. Inquiries regarding the International recall can be directed to their customer service at 800-448-7825 with recall number 24515. NHTSA’s reference for this recall is 24V-818.
