“Along with returning to that sweeping view west toward the Bradshaw Mountains, visitors will notice upgrades to the signage, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping, along with renovated ramadas,” ADOT said in a statement. “Restrooms have new or upgraded lighting fixtures, doors, sinks, hand dryers and more.”

The original restroom building, which had been closed since 2012, has been renovated and reopened. The rest area serves over a million visitors each year and is a popular stop along the highway.

In addition to upgrading the facilities, the rest area’s sundial memorial, honoring ADOT highway workers who have lost their lives on duty, has also been renovated. The project also includes expanding truck parking to accommodate more commercial vehicles.

During the construction, the rest area was closed to regular motorists, but commercial vehicle traffic was allowed with limited services. Now, all services at the rest area are fully operational.

ADOT provided a temporary rest area at Badger Springs Road during the renovations, but it will now be closed as the main rest area is open and ready for visitors.
