Mack Trucks unveiled the all-new Mack Anthem at the ATA Management Conference and Exhibition, and it is already drawing attention across the industry.

This model is not just a basic upgrade. Mack says the new Anthem improves on the original in nearly every way, offering better handling, fuel savings, and comfort designed for life on the road.

A Smarter, Stronger Anthem

“Making its first public appearance since its virtual reveal in June, the Anthem represents a bold evolution of a true industry icon, delivering enhanced maneuverability, improved forward visibility, and up to 10% better fuel efficiency for a competitive edge that pays off on every mile,” Mack said.

For truckers, that 10% improvement in fuel efficiency can mean real savings. The design focuses on better visibility and control, giving drivers more confidence when backing into docks, pulling through tight city spaces, or working long regional runs.

The new Anthem follows the release of the Mack Pioneer earlier this year, marking 2025 as one of the most active product years for the company.

Built for the Way Drivers Work

“The all-new Anthem represents a significant step forward for Mack and for the regional-haul segment,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “It carries the same name as its predecessor because it embodies the same values and attributes with measurable improvements, but is substantially better in all aspects. The all-new Anthem delivers improvements in every area that matters to customers’ businesses: fuel efficiency, maneuverability, driver comfort, safety, connectivity, and uptime. The Anthem truly is the ‘New Standard of Regional Haul.’”

Drivers will notice the difference as soon as they climb in. The cab is nine inches wider than before, offering more room to move and store personal gear. Heated and ventilated seats come standard, with a massage option for added comfort. The stand-up sleeper designs, available in 44-inch and 64-inch configurations, give drivers extra space for rest and storage on longer runs.

Safety That Has Your Back

Mack built safety into the new Anthem from the ground up with its Mack Protect package. This includes advanced driver assist features such as Blind Spot Radar and digital mirrors. The truck also comes equipped with Side Integrated Curtain Airbags to protect drivers in rollover situations.

“Safety remains front and center with Mack Protect, a standard suite of advanced driver-assist technologies, including optional Blind Spot Radar, digital mirrors, and Side Integrated Curtain Airbags (ICA) to protect drivers during rollover incidents,” Mack said.

These features give both company drivers and owner operators added security and awareness on the road.

What It Means for Drivers

The Anthem aims to raise the bar for regional haul work by combining performance, comfort, and reliability. Mack focused on aerodynamics, visibility, and cab design to make long hours more manageable while keeping fuel costs lower.

For drivers who want a dependable truck that delivers savings and safety without sacrificing comfort, the new Mack Anthem looks ready to meet those expectations.

The diesel-electric hybrid retrofit of ReVolt Motors’ Peterbilt 379 maintains the classic exterior of a traditional diesel truck while offering a greener alternative. Earlier this year, ReVolt Motors made headlines in the trucking industry by unveiling a powertrain designed to retrofit existing trucks, aiming to reduce emissions across the board.

Initially, ReVolt planned to debut their diesel-electric hybrid Peterbilt 379 at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS). Still, with the cancellation of the event, their showcase shifted to the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo. Here, trucking enthusiasts, including Clean Trucking Senior Editor Jay Traugott, got a firsthand look at the innovative diesel-hybrid technology.

Performance Highlights of the ReVolt Hybrid Peterbilt

ReVolt Motors’ hybrid system combines a Scania 9-liter diesel engine with an electric generator and a 210-kWh battery pack. The setup powers the drive axles and provides significant fuel efficiency improvements.

Hybrid Range: Offers a 1,200-mile extended range, comparable to traditional Peterbilt trucks.

Electric Mode: Operates exclusively on electric power for up to 100 miles.

Fuel Efficiency: Achieves at least 12 miles per gallon in suitable applications, delivering up to 40% savings on fuel costs.

Built for Challenging Routes

CEO Gus Gardner explains that not all trucking routes will maximize the benefits of ReVolt’s hybrid system. “If you’re driving L.A. to Phoenix at 60 miles per hour hauling a 40,000-pound load and achieving 10 miles per gallon with a super-efficient truck, we’re probably not going to help you,” he said. However, for challenging terrains like rural roads with frequent starts, stops, and inclines, the hybrid system can dramatically improve efficiency and offer a short payback period.

Hybrid Weight Considerations

Like most electric-powered vehicles, the ReVolt hybrid system adds weight, approximately 4,000 pounds over a standard diesel truck. However, it qualifies for the additional 2,000-pound allowance for electric trucks, enabling it to operate at a total of 82,000 pounds legally.

A ReVolt representative noted that these are early figures from prototype units, and improvements are underway. “ReVolt has a pathway to get to net zero on weight, but it is still in process,” they stated.

Why the ReVolt Hybrid Peterbilt Stands Out

The diesel-electric Peterbilt 379 isn’t just a retrofit, it’s a step towards cleaner trucking without compromising functionality. It’s an ideal solution for trucking companies handling routes with high variability in fuel efficiency due to terrain and load conditions. ReVolt estimates substantial cost savings, especially for those navigating rural or mountainous roads.

If you’re a business owner or fleet operator looking to reduce emissions while maintaining operational efficiency, this next-generation Peterbilt truck could redefine how you drive a truck.

When it comes to the trucking industry, Mack and Peterbilt are two powerhouse names that have earned the trust and loyalty of countless drivers. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or new to trucking, understanding the contrasts and commonalities between these brands can clarify which is best suited for your needs. Below, we take a detailed look at Mack and Peterbilt trucks by comparing their performance, design, and overall value.

Brand Background

Mack Trucks

Founded in 1900, Mack Trucks is a brand synonymous with toughness and durability. Now part of the Volvo Group, Mack focuses on manufacturing heavy-duty trucks tailored for challenging jobs, including construction, logging, and off-road applications. Their no-nonsense approach and robust builds make them a staple in industries that demand reliability.

Peterbilt

Peterbilt got its start in 1939 and has since become a symbol of premium truck quality. Acquired by PACCAR in 1958, Peterbilt specializes in highly customizable trucks, making them a top choice for long-haul drivers. With their attention to detail and superior craftsmanship, Peterbilt trucks have garnered a reputation for exceptional value and comfort.

Engine and Performance

Mack:

Mack relies on its proprietary MP series engines, including the MP7 and MP8, which are designed for power and reliability. These engines offer horsepower ratings of up to 505 and torque up to 1,860 lb-ft, making them a perfect match for heavy-duty vocational work. Built with durability in mind, Mack trucks are well-suited for tough tasks.

Peterbilt:

Peterbilt trucks come equipped with PACCAR MX-series engines like the MX-13 and MX-11, with options for Cummins engines as well. These engines deliver up to 510 horsepower and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. Ideal for highway applications, Peterbilt engines are engineered to balance performance with fuel efficiency, keeping drivers comfortable during long hauls.

Design and Comfort

Mack:

Mack trucks are renowned for their functional and rugged designs. With practical features like breakaway mirrors, ergonomic seating, and ample storage space, Mack emphasizes utility over luxury. While their interiors are straightforward, they provide the durability and practicality needed for hard-working environments.

Peterbilt:

Peterbilt trucks shine when it comes to customization and driver comfort. Their interiors feature advanced digital dashboards, high-end finishes, and options for premium materials. Peterbilt cabins are designed with the driver in mind, offering a level of comfort that makes them a favorite among long-distance haulers.

Fuel Efficiency

Mack:

Mack has made significant strides in improving fuel efficiency. Models like the Mack Anthem feature aerodynamic designs and advanced powertrain technologies that help reduce fuel consumption. These innovations make Mack a competitive choice for operators looking to cut operational costs.

Peterbilt:

Peterbilt prioritizes fuel economy through aerodynamic designs and lightweight materials. Their PACCAR MX engines, combined with advanced engineering, enhance efficiency without compromising performance. Long-haul drivers often appreciate the savings and sustainability offered by Peterbilt’s thoughtful approach to fuel management.

Durability and Reliability

Mack:

Durability is where Mack truly excels. Built for rough environments, Mack trucks are a common sight in industries like construction and logging, where trucks need to withstand heavy workloads and challenging terrains. Their legendary toughness ensures reliable performance under stress.

Peterbilt:

Peterbilt trucks are equally reliable but stand out for their longevity and premium craftsmanship. While they’re not specifically built for rugged vocational roles, their robust construction and attention to detail make them exceptionally durable. Peterbilt delivers reliability with an added layer of comfort and refinement.

Cost and Resale Value

Mack:

For buyers on a budget, Mack offers a more affordable upfront cost compared to Peterbilt. Additionally, maintenance costs are generally manageable, making Mack trucks an appealing choice for vocational applications where cost-effectiveness is key.

Peterbilt:

Peterbilt trucks come with a higher initial price tag but excel in retaining their resale value. This makes them a smart long-term investment for those wanting premium quality and the ability to recoup costs when it’s time to upgrade. Their balance of durability and comfort enhances their long-term market demand.

Choosing Between Mack and Peterbilt

When deciding between Mack and Peterbilt, the choice depends largely on your specific needs and priorities:

Mack Trucks: Ideal for heavy-duty tasks, Mack focuses on practicality, ruggedness, and reliability. Industries such as construction and logging will especially benefit from Mack’s durable design.

Peterbilt Trucks: Perfect for long-haul drivers, Peterbilt emphasizes comfort, customization, and efficiency. Their high-end interiors and premium build quality cater to those spending long hours on the road.

Understanding the strengths of Mack and Peterbilt trucks helps to highlight why both brands continue to be strongholds in the trucking industry. Mack’s toughness and utility make it a top choice for demanding environments, while Peterbilt’s blend of reliability and driver-focused design appeals to those prioritizing comfort and efficiency.
