“For the first time, drivers needing spread-axle weights can get a certified gross weight along with individual axle weights,” notes the CAT Scale. “All guaranteed by CAT Scale. To use this new feature, drivers will need to enable the option in their Weigh My Truck account profile in the vehicle information section. Once the split weigh feature is enabled, drivers will be able to perform certified spread-axle weighing through the Weigh My Truck app.”

How to Use Spread Axle Weighing

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to using this new feature:

• Positioning: Pull onto the scale as usual and open the Weigh My Truck app to begin the weighing process.
• Weighing Options: A prompt will allow you to choose between “Standard Weigh” and “Split Axle Weigh.” Select “Split Axle Weigh.”
• Enter Details: Input the necessary information and accept the associated fee.
• Weighing Process: Slowly exit the scale, allowing the trailer axle weights to be recorded in motion.

Once the weighing is complete, the app will authorize payment and display the weights on your device. A locked PDF with a scale ticket is sent instantly to the driver’s email for easy record-keeping.

Gone are the days of a simple office trailer. Originally built in 1996, the Conowingo Truck Weigh and Inspection Station has received a major facelift. This state-of-the-art facility underwent geometric and technology improvements to ensure it meets the highest industry standards.

After a brief closure in December 2020, the new weigh station was completed in July and is now fully operational as of Wednesday, September 6th.

“The renovations to this critical asset along US 1 will improve overall operational efficiency and accessibility for commercial trucks,” State Highway Administrator William Pines said. “With this new facility, we also will improve safety for motorists who travel the corridor in non-commercial vehicles.”

Updates to the truck inspection and weigh station include:

• Enhanced accessibility and traffic flow with a wider entrance
• Accommodation for wide loads with a new scale boasting a maximum clearance of 14 feet
• Streamlined truck access to the inspection pit and work shed
• Spacious new scale house featuring an industrial-grade roof and high-grade windows
• Upgraded Intelligent Transportation Systems equipment, including LED signs, CCTV cameras, and lane use signs
• Ample parking for trucks declared out of service due to safety concerns
• Convenient employee and visitor parking near the scale house
• Improved site drainage to meet current standards
• Enhanced security with photocell-equipped light poles in the parking lot

“Scale houses are more than checkpoints on our highways. They play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and safety of commercial vehicles,” said Maryland State Police Lt. Col. Dan Picket, Chief of Field Operations Bureau. “Maintaining our weigh and inspection stations protects not only the drivers of trucks and buses, but also all motorists traversing Maryland roadways.”
