A small Virginia trucking company is doing what they can to not only help ease supply chain disruption, but also change the lives of their employees, Angela Bohon reported for WTKR in Virginia Beach.
Triple Vision Logistics and KJ Dispatch Service are owned and operated by Marcus and Angela Little. They hire felons, according to the Littles, because Marcus knows the obstacles they face firsthand. He was only 19 when he was convicted of armed robbery, after acting as a getaway driver.
“You can’t cry over spilled milk, you know?” Little told Bohon earlier this month. “You have to learn how to deal with stuff and not dwell in it.”
The couple has learned to deal with stuff. So well, in fact, they are now assisting others in building a life after prison through trucking.
“It just excites me to inspire or help build up another household, teaching them more of generational wealth, being independent, being your own boss,” Angela said.
The companies CDL-A truck drivers are put on regional runs, so they can see their family more often. And qualified Class A truck drivers make about $100,000 a year. Marcus said they recruit from local trucking schools and with new initiatives allowing teen drivers to get their interstate CDL-A, they plan to speak to local high schools as well. Angela has reportedly trained over 100 dispatchers.
“Due to the shortage, this is a great time to come in just to learn how to do the logistics,” she said. “I would love to see more women getting in the industry, more women holding their CDLs.”
