Saia LTL Freight celebrates 100 years of service, reflecting on its journey from a small operation in Louisiana to a national trucking leader. Discover the company's achievements, milestones, and future goals as it continues to innovate and grow.

Saia LTL Freight proudly marks a full century since its founding, celebrating 100 years as one of America’s most iconic and expansive trucking companies. Starting in 1924 in Louisiana, Saia Inc. has grown from its roots into a national leader in the industry, a journey it credits to a relentless focus on innovation, resilience, and quality service.

The company’s story begins with Louis Saia Sr., who operated out of Houma, Louisiana, and initially delivered goods to New Orleans at his customers’ requests. What started as a small operation has since flourished into a large-scale enterprise featuring:

  • 15,000 employees
  • 213 terminals
  • 6,500 tractors
  • 22,000 trailers

In a bold step to secure future growth, Saia announced a significant $1 billion investment in its operations for the year, signaling its dedication to continued progress.

“Our centennial is not just about looking back at our achievements but also looking forward to the innovations and opportunities that lie ahead,” said President and CEO Fritz Holzgrefe.

As part of the centennial celebrations, Saia launched two mobile museums, complete with interactive exhibits detailing the company’s journey over the last 100 years. These traveling exhibits even feature a real Saia truck and a simulator for visitors to experience what it’s like to drive one.

This milestone not only reflects on Saia’s rich legacy but also serves as a tribute to the dedicated employees and loyal customers who have supported its growth. Acknowledging that employees are essential to its success, Saia remains committed to fostering a supportive and fulfilling work environment.

The festivities began at Saia’s headquarters in Johns Creek, Georgia, with a celebratory event for employees, families, and community leaders, including Johns Creek Mayor John Bradberry. Similar events were held across Saia’s network and at its original office in Houma, Louisiana.

In honor of the occasion, Mayor Bradberry remarked, “Congratulations on your 100-year anniversary. We look forward to your continued success in Johns Creek over the next 100 years. Thank you for being a great member of our community.”

As it enters its next century, Saia’s goals include further expansion, technological advancements, and a strengthened focus on sustainability and community involvement.
