Shell and WEX have introduced an upgraded version of their Shell Card, building on their prior collaboration that started with the launch of their commercial fleet product in 2018. These new cards consolidate and replace the existing Shell Fleet Plus, Shell Small Business, and Shell Fleet Navigator cards, improving upon features to serve fleet operators even better.
According to Mohamad Kabbani, Head of Shell Fleet Solutions U.S., the enhanced Shell Card goes far beyond a standard fuel card. Speaking about its features, he noted, “It is an all-in-one solution that helps fleet operators unlock new levels of efficiency and performance. The Shell Card is the key to transforming the management of your fleet with actionable data to help control costs and improve operations, and technology that can improve data security and enable your electrification journey.”
Key Features of the New Shell Card
Fleet operators face various challenges, from cost control to electrification. Based on Shell’s latest Fleet Trends survey, these are some of their top concerns. Keeping these needs in mind, the new Shell Card provides robust solutions:
Fuel Rebates and Benefits
- Tiered Rebates: Shell Card Business Flex customers can save up to $0.05 per gallon, while Shell Card Business users can save up to $0.06 per gallon at Shell locations.
- Bonus Locations: Shell Card Business Flex users can also enjoy additional rebates of $0.03 to $0.05 per gallon at participating Shell rebate bonus stations, easily located via the WEX DriverDash app or the Shell station locator.
Comprehensive Network Coverage
The Shell Card Business Flex program now supports fuel purchases at over 95% of U.S. gas stations and public EV charging points nationwide. A wide-ranging network of EV charging providers, including Shell Recharge, Blink, AmpUp, ChargePoint, EVgo, and Flo, ensures convenience for drivers. Both fuel and electric vehicle (EV) charging transactions are seamlessly integrated into billing, reporting, and usage data.
Enhanced Data Security and Insights
WEX’s RFID technology, paired with the closed-loop payments network, strengthens transaction security. Through the integration of tools like DriverDash, fleet managers gain insights into charging behaviors, driver identifications, and vehicle mileage, enabling tighter control and monitoring.
A Unified Solution Across Fuel Types
WEX Senior Vice President and General Manager of EV and Mobility, Jay Collins, emphasized how WEX’s EV solutions stand out in the market by offering unified billing and detailed line-item reporting for EV and traditional fuel vehicles. “Few EV solutions simplify charging for commercial drivers and allow fleet managers access to line item charging detail, vehicle performance, and unified billing regardless of charging brand,” Collins explained. He added that these solutions function effectively across all charging locations while integrating with traditional fuel metrics under a single credit line and portal.
Added Perks for Fleet Operators
The new Shell Card program extends beyond fuel and EV charging, offering several other valuable benefits, such as:
- Preventive Maintenance Discounts
Cardholders can access up to 20% off services through the Jiffy Lube Fleet Program at participating locations, keeping fleet interruptions to a minimum and providing flexible scheduling and billing options.
- 24/7 Emergency Roadside Assistance
The Shell Card includes Fleet Rescue, which offers hassle-free, mobile payment-supported roadside assistance, eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for drivers.
- Loyalty and Rewards
Together with the Fuel Rewards program, drivers can save more at the pump for both work and personal vehicles. Additional perks include discounts on convenience store items and partner promotions like dining out at participating restaurants or shopping with linked cards.
Tailored Solutions for Businesses of All Sizes
Shell Card programs cater to fleets of all shapes and sizes with specific options to address their needs:
- Shell Card Business focuses on small to mid-sized businesses with consistent fuel requirements.
- Shell Card Business Flex is best suited for larger companies with widespread operations, offering robust tools for tighter expense control.
Cardholders also gain access to an online fleet management portal (desktop and mobile) that simplifies billing, streamlines operations, and enables paperless statements. Large fleets can benefit from dedicated account management support.
The Future of Fleet Management
Shell and WEX continue to lead the way in helping businesses manage fleet operations efficiently while navigating the shift toward electrification. With advanced tools and a focus on security, savings, and sustainability, the new Shell Card is transforming fleet management across industries.
