Wawa to Open Its First Travel Center in North Carolina on August 28

Wawa is stepping into a new chapter by opening its very first travel center, set to welcome drivers on August 28 in Hope Mills, North Carolina.

The company, which operates more than 1,100 convenience stores across 12 states and Washington, D.C., will now offer a larger-scale stop designed with the needs of professional drivers and travelers in mind. The new site can be found at 630 Chicken Foot Road, Hope Mills, NC 28348, just south of Fayetteville.

Spanning more than 8,000 square feet, the Hope Mills location brings together both convenience and function. It features six high-speed diesel fueling lanes that accept OTR payments, a CAT scale, complimentary truck parking, clean restrooms, and even a pet relief area.

John Poplawski, Wawa’s Chief Real Estate Officer, explained the company’s vision for this expansion. “We are thrilled to pilot this new format in Hope Mills and believe this new travel center model is a great way to bring Wawa to customers while serving the needs of the travelers,” Poplawski said. “Not only will our Wawa Travel Center meet the fueling needs of professional drivers, while also remaining a community hub for local friends and neighbors to enjoy.”

Looking further ahead, Wawa has ambitious growth plans in the region. Over the next eight to 10 years, the chain expects to open six to eight stores each year, ultimately reaching 90 stores across North Carolina. Each site will represent an investment of more than $7.5 million while creating new local jobs.
