About the Role

Velocity Rail Solutions is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor with a Class A CDL (Hazmat/Tanker) to lead daily fueling and rail unloading operations in Elko, NV. This hands‑on leadership role combines supervision, safety oversight, fueling operations, and tank car unloading, all while working a consistent schedule and going home daily.

This position is ideal for candidates with industrial, fuel, rail, or heavy‑equipment backgrounds who want to lead a small team and maintain a safe, high‑performance worksite.


Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Perform Direct‑to‑Locomotive fueling.
  • Safely unload rail tank cars using hoses, valves, and transfer equipment.
  • Conduct pre‑unloading inspections, seal checks, and documentation reviews.
  • Monitor product flow, pressures, and equipment performance.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and compliant work areas.
  • Complete and submit accurate reports (FAR, BOL, time sheets, receipts, etc.)

Leadership & Training

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
  • Lead monthly safety and communication meetings.
  • Ensure employees understand procedures, updates, and expectations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a culture of Zero Occurrences.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FRA, PPE, and customer safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety observations and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Train employees on the Emergency Response and Security Plan.
  • Maintain DOT driver qualification files.

Customer Relations

  • Maintain strong working relationships with local customers.
  • Communicate service updates, scheduling needs, and performance issues.
  • Assist with root‑cause analysis and corrective action planning.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Develop Equipment Specialists at the site.
  • Ensure backup equipment remains operational.
  • Track and schedule maintenance in Zendu.
  • Maintain equipment service records and documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
  • Two or more years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Elko, NV area.
  • Ability to pass all background checks and drug testing.
  • Basic computer skills; intermediate preferred.
  • Must be dependable, safety‑focused, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies when required.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift 50+ lbs.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Climb railcars and work on uneven surfaces.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and climb onto elevated areas.
  • Walk long distances in an industrial rail yard.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fuel handling, rail operations, chemical unloading, or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials procedures.
  • Familiarity with pumps, valves, and transfer equipment.

Work Environment

  • Industrial rail yard environment with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, and fuel/chemical products.
  • PPE required and provided.
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
