Representatives Sanchez and Fitzpatrick, from California (D) and Pennsylvania (R), respectively, took bipartisan action to introduce a bill that would incentivize commercial truckers in the U.S., offering them an incredible $1-per-gallon tax credit for every gallon of renewable natural gas used over 10 years if passed into law.

H.R. 2448, the Renewable Natural Gas Incentive Act of 2023 updates and builds upon its predecessor law: 2022’s H.R 9396 introduced in Congress last year. This act is designed to entice commercial trucking lines and public transit systems — who are typically reliant on diesel fuel — to make a switch over into more sustainable sources like zero-emission renewable natural gas (biomethane).

The Moving Us Forward coalition proudly stands behind the passing of this important legislation, gaining recognition from NGVAmerica–a renowned trade association that boasts some of the nation’s top experts in clean transportation.

“Transitioning to renewable natural gas will help us curb the impacts of climate change while providing a cleaner, more affordable fuel option for the industries that keep America moving,” said Congresswoman Sanchez in a press release. “This tax credit will allow transit agencies, school districts, freight haulers, and package delivery companies to replace aging fleets with sustainable alternatives, all without slowing production or increasing costs.”
