A data breach has hit the U.S. Transportation Department, specifically its administrative systems. However, the preliminary inquiry found that only software used for employee transit benefits was affected, with no impact on transportation safety systems.

Following the breach, the department has called in the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, along with suspending access to affected systems while they investigate further. The breach is expected to have affected around 237,000 current and former employees, according to Reuters.

While the department has faced criticism in the past due to system failures affecting air travel, this breach is limited in its impact and does not affect the public’s safety.
