In an incident on Sunday, a fire erupted at the Nikola Corporation in Phoenix. The source of the blaze was an electric semi-truck that had previously caught fire, only to reignite with its battery cells going up in flames.
Prompt action from the Phoenix Fire Department’s hazmat firefighters ensured that the fire was quickly contained. No injuries were reported in this incident.
“We thank the Phoenix Fire Department for their swift response. The damaged trucks have remained at the company’s HQ site for safety monitoring and the ongoing investigations,” said Nicole Rose, a spokesperson for Nikola Corporation.
It’s reported that hundreds of gallons of water were used to combat the scorching batteries, reaching temperatures of over 800 degrees. The resulting smoke is highly hazardous, yet no cases of smoke inhalation injuries have been reported, as confirmed by officials from the department.
