More than 4,300 Mack and Volvo trucks are being recalled in three campaigns involving a potential braking problem and exterior components that could detach from certain vehicles.

The recalls cover select Mack Anthem and Pioneer models along with Volvo VNL and VNR trucks from model years 2025 through 2027, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Two of the recalls address the same braking concern on trucks equipped with a tanker application package, while a separate Mack campaign covers intake and grille bezels.

Tanker Braking Recall Covers Mack and Volvo Models

The braking issue affects 1,242 trucks across the two brands. Inaccurate axle load calculations may reduce braking performance when the affected vehicles are transporting smoothbore tanker trailers.

Mack’s portion of the recall covers 850 model-year 2026-2027 Anthem AN and Pioneer PR trucks equipped with the tanker application package. Volvo is recalling another 392 model-year 2025-2027 VNL and 2026-2027 VNR trucks with the same package.

The repair is also the same for both brands. Dealers will install software that disables the dynamic trailer braking calculations at no cost to owners, with notification letters expected to be mailed Nov. 27.

Mack has assigned recall number SC0500 to its campaign, while Volvo’s recall is listed as RVXX2610. VINs included in both recalls can be checked through NHTSA’s online recall database.

Separate Mack Recall Covers Intake and Grille Bezels

Another 3,096 Mack trucks are being recalled because their intake and grille bezels may detach from the vehicle. That campaign covers model-year 2026-2027 Anthem AN and 2025-2027 Pioneer PR trucks.

Dealers will inspect the affected components, replace the intake and grille bezels and install cable ties as necessary. The work will be completed free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 30. Mack has designated the recall as SC0501, and VINs involved in the campaign are expected to become searchable through NHTSA by Oct. 8.

Anyone who owns or operates one of the affected models can use the truck’s VIN to determine whether it is included in a recall. Mack owners can also contact customer service at 1-800-866-1177, while Volvo owners can call 800-528-6586.
