The American Trucking Associations’ Trucking Cares Foundation honored Von Minor, president and executive director of South Dallas Driving Academy, with its 2026 John Lex Premier Achievement Award.
The award recognized Minor’s work with the nonprofit, which helps residents of underserved communities in South Dallas overcome barriers to obtaining driver’s licenses.
Foundation Support Helps Academy Grow
The Trucking Cares Foundation has supported the academy since its pilot phase, contributing nearly $100,000 through annual donations. That funding helped the organization expand its workforce development efforts and provide more residents with access to licensing opportunities.
Minor credited the foundation and the academy’s supporters for helping the program grow.
“When we launched South Dallas Driving Academy, we believed that removing barriers to mobility could transform lives, and the Trucking Cares Foundation was with us every step of the way,” Minor said.
He also recognized the academy’s graduates and the people who helped develop it, calling the award an honor shared with those who made the program possible.

As part of the John Lex Premier Achievement Award, the Trucking Cares Foundation provides a $5,000 donation to a charity selected by the recipient.
The recognition highlighted the foundation’s continued support for South Dallas Driving Academy and its efforts to expand access to driver’s licenses and workforce opportunities.
