Be aware of Indiana ‘Bear in the Air’ patrol

This week, the Indiana State Police announced plans to begin a months-long traffic enforcement effort using aircraft.

On January 31, the Indiana State Police – Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division announced a new “Bear in the Air” enforcement detail.

Troopers say that for the next several months, they plan to use an Indiana State Police aircraft to assist ground units in detecting unsafe driving around commercial motor vehicles.

In the notice, Indiana State Police reminded motorists that the CMV following distance in Indiana is 300 feet.

While troopers say that they will be focusing on motorists, they remind truck drivers that “we will also be looking at CMVs as well.”
