California Trucker and Dog Reunited in Cincinnati

After a chance encounter, an unlikely pair of travelers — a California trucker and his loyal canine companion – are heading home together after each embarking on independent journeys and ultimately reuniting in Cincinnati.

After sharing the open road together, trucker Jordan and his trusted travel companion Sophie were forced to separate after Jordan’s company announced a new policy banning pets from joining drivers on their cross-country trips. With a heavy heart, the trucker did what he felt was best for Sophie and rehomed the dog. Fortunately, this story has a happy ending as with the help of social media the former duo was recently reunited – allowing them to resume their journeys in each other’s company once again.

Sophie was originally adopted in California but found herself rehomed several times before she found herself wandering the streets of Walnut Hills, OH.

The lucky pup was rescued by a Hamilton County Dog Warden who scanned her for a microchip, which directed back to Jordan. Cincinnati Animal CARE was more than happy to get in touch with Jordan, who by this time was working for a new company with more pet-friendly policies.

Jordan was delighted to get the call and without hesitation, scheduled himself a haul to Cincinnati to be reunited with Sophie.

CAC released disheartening statistics, revealing that one in every three pets will go missing at some point. Unfortunately, 90% of lost animals without identification never return to their owners – a sobering fact reinforced by the heartwarming story of Sophie’s reunion with her family after she was microchipped prior to going AWOL. Following this inspiring tale, CAC experts emphasize the importance for pet-owners to consider microchip technology as an added protective measure which increases chances of being reunited should they ever become separated from home sweet home and beloved furry companions.
