California is making greener transportation more accessible through its voucher program. The state’s Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive program (HVIP) has set aside $83 million to support small, heavy-duty truck fleets in their transition to cleaner vehicles powered by alternative fuels and powertrains.
This funding assistance program, known as the Innovative Small E-Fleet (ISEF) voucher incentive, is a game-changer for fleet owners looking to embrace sustainability. Now, they have the opportunity to access significant financial support to navigate the path towards a cleaner future.
Starting August 30th, the ISEF voucher program is officially open for requests. This is the chance for small fleets to secure their share of the funding and pave the way for a more eco-friendly transportation industry in California.
CARB has launched the ISEF Voucher Program to support small fleets in accessing incentive funding. This program not only offers financial assistance but also enables CARB to gather valuable data on the needs of small fleets. By understanding these needs, CARB can provide better support for the transition to zero-emissions technology.
This year, CARB has increased the funding for the ISEF Voucher Program by $50 million. Now, privately owned trucking companies and nonprofits, including independent owner-operators, with 20 or fewer vehicles weighing over 8,500lbs, and less than $15 million in annual revenue can benefit from this program. (Nonprofits are exempt from the revenue cap.)
Eligible fleets can access funding to help with the costs associated with purchasing and operating zero-emission trucks. This means that small fleets can now take advantage of eco-friendly technology without breaking the bank.
To apply for vouchers, fleets must partner with an approved provider. These providers will then work with reputable equipment dealers to request vouchers on behalf of the fleet. This streamlined process ensures a smooth and efficient application experience.
“Ensuring a clean air future means that no one can be left behind, and the ISEF program is an example of the assistance that CARB is providing to ensure that fleets big and small understand how to do their part to achieve California’s zero-emissions goals, and have the support needed to be successful,” said CARB Executive Officer Steven Cliff. “Every new zero-emissions truck on the road means cleaner air and healthier communities.”
The program offers flexible financing, fuel-included leases, rentals, and truck-as-a-service options to help offset costs. We cover charges for charging or other fueling infrastructure, insurance, and alternative fuel expenses. Calstart, a leading clean-transportation nonprofit organization, administers ISEF.
“I am so grateful for the ISEF program. As a startup company, it was a game-changer to have the support from this program to help me buy my first two battery-electric semis and make the transition to cleaner vehicle technology,” said Sharmin Watson, owner of Avant Garde Auto Logistics. “We made history as the first fleet of Class 8 all-electric semis to haul finished vehicles in the United States. I appreciate all the help from the Calstart team; they have been easy to work with throughout the process.”
