FedEx Freight Driver Takes Home South Carolina Driving Competition Title

South Carolina Truck Driving Championships saw fierce competition among state fleets in nine classes, covering written tests, pre-trip inspections, and road courses. David Fountain of FedEx Express emerged victorious as the overall high scorer, earning the coveted Grand Champion title.

Old Dominion Freight Lines takes home the prestigious William C. “Curly” Hallford Team Award for driver excellence. Congrats to Kevin Smith, Kenneth Smith, Trent Currin, David Eggert, Cole Howard and Blake Taylor!

Stephen Hyde from FedEx Freight is recognized for outstanding vehicle maintenance with the Vehicle Condition Award.

David Eggert from Old Dominion Freight Lines excels in industry knowledge, earning the coveted G. M. “Scott” Murray Knowledge of the Industry Award.

Richard Britton of FedEx Freight claims the Rookie of the Year Award, impressing judges with exceptional first-time participation.

  • Five Axle Tank – Bennie Yearty, TCW
  • Five Axle Twins – Blake Taylor, Old Dominion Freight Lines
  • Five Axle Van – JB Quarles, Wal-Mart Stores
  • Step Van – Zach Welch, FedEx Ground

All drivers earning first place in their category will have the opportunity to compete at the American Trucking Associations National Truck Driving Championships in Columbus, Ohio in August.
