FMCSA backs safety enforcement campaign on 2 key interstates this summer

This summer experts expect Americans to be driving more than ever since the pandemic. In preparation for high traffic “the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is working with state agencies for several weeks this summer in a traffic safety program along two heavily traveled interstate highways in the eastern part of the U.S.” (Freight Waves). The Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) will create enforcement on Interstates 81 and 95.

The program is called SafeDRIVE and it targets distracted and reckless driving. The FMCSA describes it as a “multistate, high-visibility traffic enforcement and education initiative that focuses on changing bad driver behavior and ultimately reducing crash fatalities involving large trucks and buses across the country”. More safety initiatives will be enforced on these interstates this summer so make sure to stay attentive and cautious while on the roads.
