Paccar has announced a recall affecting various Kenworth and Peterbilt truck models due to a problem identified in the accelerator pedal assembly.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents reveal that over 1,000 trucks from model years 2023 and 2024 are subject to the recall. The issue involves the throttle pedal assembly, which may have a magnet carrier that is oversized. This defect can reduce the pedal’s responsiveness or even cause it to stick, increasing the likelihood of an accident.

Cause of the Recall
According to the official safety recall report, the oversized magnet carrier serves as the pivot point for the throttle pedal, potentially causing the pedal to bind. Paccar indicated that the issue originated from a problem with the molding tool used to create the magnet carriers.
If the throttle pedal becomes stuck and does not return to idle when released, braking can resolve the issue. However, introducing fluid into the affected components may exacerbate the problem.
This recall traces back to a larger equipment recall by Orscheln, the manufacturer of the problematic electronic throttle pedals. Orscheln’s recall impacts over 4,000 throttle pedals supplied to Paccar and other truck manufacturers, such as Oshkosh.
Current Status and Next Steps
By January 14, Paccar reported five warranty claims linked to the issue, though no field reports of incidents, injuries, or fatalities had been filed.
To resolve the issue, authorized Paccar dealers will inspect and replace throttle pedal assemblies as needed, free of charge. Truck owners affected by the recall will begin receiving official notification letters on March 17.
