Know a Highway Hero? Goodyear wants to see their story

Have you heard of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.’s Highway Heroes? The two tire companies have teamed up and announced the return of their annual Highway Hero Award, a program celebrating professional truck drivers who are selfless on and off the road.

Through the end of the year, the tire manufacturer will accept nominations for the award. The Highway Hero competition, which was started in 1983, honors truck drivers in North America who go above and beyond for the benefit of others while they are driving. They have asked the trucking community to submit their nominations through online story submissions.

Requirements for submission are:

  • Full-time truck driver
  • Resides in U.S. or Canada
  • Their truck at the time must have 12 wheels or more
  • The heroic/act of courage must have taken place between January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022

Landline Media reported that this year’s winner will receive a significant monetary reward, custom prizes, and a trip to Orlando for the 2023 Technology & Maintenance Council annual meeting and transportation technology exhibition. There will also be two finalists who will receive prize packages too!

You can submit your nominations at GoodyearTruckTires.com by sharing the story of their heroic moment and explaining why they are a deserving driver. Nominations can be made through Dec. 31. The winner will be announced in early 2023. There will be a panel of judges to help determine the winners.

In March 2022, Goodyear recognized Gerald “Andy” Wright – a truck driver from Jacksonville, Ill., who rescued and helped save the lives of motorists trapped in a burning vehicle – as its 37th annual Highway Hero Award winner.
