Gear up for a jam-packed holiday weekend as the long Labor Day break entices millions of Americans to take one final road trip. Brace yourself for heavier than usual traffic starting late this week as enthusiastic travelers hit the highways in search of adventure and relaxation.
If you’re going to be on the road, be sure you plan ahead, buckle up, and get ready to safely enjoy the last hurrah of summer alongside your fellow motorists.
“Most travelers will leave on Thursday or Friday before Labor Day to take advantage of the long holiday weekend,” said Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel. “Domestically, the Pacific Northwest, big cities like New York and Denver, and tourist hotspots like Orlando and Las Vegas are the most popular.”
The most popular domestic destinations include Seattle, Orlando, Anchorage, New York, and Las Vegas. Seattle has experienced a tourism boost due to the high demand for Alaska cruises. Florida destinations are well-loved for their beautiful beaches, theme parks, and cruise ports in Central Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Miami.
As the extended Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, AAA advises on the best and worst times to be on the highway during this time.
