High school seniors in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) now have a direct path into the trucking industry thanks to a new collaboration with Armored Trucking Academy of Clarksville. The district recently announced the launch of a CDL-A training program that lets eligible 12th graders start earning their commercial driver’s license before graduation.
Starting this school year, seniors who qualify can enroll in the CDL-A Training Program, a one-semester course that provides hands-on instruction and the opportunity to finish high school with a CDL-A license in hand. The program is offered at no cost to students or their families.
Who Can Apply?
To be considered for the training, students must:
- Be a CMCSS high school senior
- Turn 18 on or before Jan. 6, 2026
- Be on track to graduate
- Maintain at least 90% attendance
- Have no major disciplinary issues
- Provide reliable transportation each day
- Hold a valid Tennessee driver’s license
- Pass both a DOT physical and a drug screening
Required documents include:
- Original Social Security card
- Official birth certificate with state seal
- Two proofs of residency that match the parent’s name on the birth certificate
Outreach and Application Timeline
Representatives from the CMCSS Career and Technical Education (CTE) department and instructors from Armored Trucking Academy will begin visiting all eight traditional CMCSS high schools on October 20. During these visits, they will meet individually with interested students to discuss the program and answer questions.
