Amanda CarrAmanda Carr, a dedicated truck driver from Brady, TX, has recently been honored as a Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). Her courageous actions came to light after she bravely ran towards a truck fire to extinguish it following an early morning crash.

Carr, who works for Skelton Truck Lines based in Winchester, OH, demonstrated her extraordinary bravery and quick thinking on June 17, 2023. While driving along Interstate 80 through Laramie, WY, Carr witnessed a truck lose control and veer off the road, crashing into the grass before ultimately flipping over onto its right side.

“I think he probably fell asleep,” Carr said. “The fuel tank ruptured on the truck when it was sliding down the road.”

Carr, a seasoned truck driver with 15 years of experience, came to the rescue. She sprang into action when she spotted a small fire near the diesel tanks and swiftly extinguished it.

“I was the only one that was right there,” she said. “The fire really scared me. I had no idea if the driver was going to be trapped. Luckily this little bitty fire extinguisher did the job.”

Despite it being the middle of the night and any potential danger of the situation, she didn’t hesitate for a moment to assist the driver.

I would want someone to stop for me,” Carr said. “Hopefully anybody would stop in that situation — it’s the right thing to do.”
