Ashley Pacific Northwest driver Jeff Webert recently shared that driving a memorial to honor one of America’s most devastating wars is more than just another job – it’s about honoring his family and country. Through this honorable mission, Webert hopes he can pay tribute to the sacrifices made by countless brave soldiers throughout history.
Webert, hailing from a proud military background yet not having served himself, is one of the many devoted truck drivers transporting The Wall That Heals across America for all to pay tribute. This remarkable exhibit will be touring the country for the remainder of the year.
A powerful tribute to those who served in the Vietnam War, this piece has been touring across America since 1996. The wall, which is a three-quarter scale replica of Washington D.C.’s iconic Vietnam Veterans Memorial, was organized by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and has visited nearly 700 locations nationwide as an expression of gratitude for our veterans’ sacrifice and heroism during wartime service.
This replica wall serves as a powerful reminder of the courageous servicemembers who lost their lives in Vietnam, etched with 58,281 names that honor those whose ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Through a dedicated mobile education center, this project is allowing individuals to gain an understanding of the war and its heroes who devoted their lives in service.
Werbert is taking the wall on an epic journey. After picking it up in San Luis Obispo, California, he headed to a stop in Hawaiian Gardens, then will head to Citrus Heights, California, where it will be unpacked and placed on display through Sunday, April 2.
After making a stop in Menifee, California , the truck will continue its trek to Texas where Webert will pass the torch to another driver to take it from there.
“It means a lot to me,” Webert said of hauling the memorial. “My aunt served in Vietnam, and so it is my way of giving back and to show my respects to her and everybody that served my country. It means a lot for the little kids seeing the trailer go up and down the road. It just means a lot to me.”
