Two Missouri Rest Areas Temporarily Closing for Renovations; Truck Parking Remains Available

Two Missouri rest areas near Boonville on I-70 are temporarily closing for renovations, with truck parking remaining open. Updates will improve accessibility, ADA compliance, and visitor comfort, expected to complete by spring 2026.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has confirmed that two Interstate 70 rest areas near Boonville, located at mile marker 104 in Cooper County, will undergo significant renovations and temporarily shut down. While car parking and the rest area facilities will be inaccessible, truck parking will stay open, though without access to amenities.

The planned updates are designed to enhance accessibility and modernize the facilities. Upgrades will include improved compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as interior and exterior remodeling of the buildings. Key additions will involve a family restroom, a vending area, and an enclosed vestibule to improve visitor comfort.

Renovation work kicked off with the closure of the westbound rest area on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The eastbound rest area is set to close in early February. If weather permits, all renovations are expected to be completed by spring 2026.

To ensure safety, signs and barricades will be installed throughout the closure period.
