Washington D.C. – The American Trucking Association has launched the Share the Road Program, a program supported by veteran drivers with the intention of teaching younger drivers the importance of driver safety. Professional accident-free million-mile truck drivers Glen Kirk of Old Dominion Freight Line and Jeff Rose and Rich Frazer of Yellow spoke to students ages 12 to 18 about blind spots, safe following distances, merging, the importance of safety belts, distracted driving, safe driving behaviors, and how to Share the Road with trucks. Youths had the opportunity to climb into the driver’s seat of a Share the Road tractor-trailer and experience firsthand what a professional truck driver can and cannot see while operating a large commercial vehicle. The Trucker reported that, “Vice President of Safety & Compliance for Zonar Systems Fred Fakkema, chairman of the ATA’s Law Enforcement Advisory Board, said that as a former trooper, he can attest to the value of strong partnerships between law enforcement and the trucking industry.” Click here to learn more about the program!
