The collaboration among Kenworth, FASTPORT, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s “Hiring Our Heroes” initiative is on the lookout for the leading rookie military veteran driver who has transitioned into the trucking industry after retiring from military service.

Grand Prize by Kenworth

Under this recognition program, Kenworth is once again offering a grand prize for the ninth consecutive year. The winner will receive a Kenworth T680, outfitted with a 76-inch sleeper and the PACCAR Powertrain, featuring the PACCAR MX-13 engine rated at 455 horsepower, PACCAR TX-12 automated transmission, and PACCAR DX-40 tandem rear axles.

Additionally, the T680 boasts a Diamond VIT interior in slate gray with madrona accents, loaded with modern amenities. The fully heated and cooled GT703 leather seats for both the driver and passenger add extra comfort. The 76-inch sleeper offers room for a microwave, TV, a factory-installed fridge, and a rotating work table. The truck also comes equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, including Kenworth’s Digital Mirrors, Bendix Fusion Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Auto Go, and Lane Keeping Assist with Torque Assisted Steering.

Application Details and Deadline

The deadline to submit applications is June 20. To qualify, nominated drivers must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be a legal resident of the continental United States and a military veteran or a current/former member of the National Guard or Reserves.
  1. Graduated from a PTDI-certified NAPFTDS or CVTA member driver training school, holding a valid CDL.
  1. Have been employed by any for-hire carrier or private fleet committed to hiring veterans and employed as a CDL driver after January 1, 2023.

Selection Process

Semi-finalists will be announced on August 1. Finalists will then be invited to Columbus, Ohio, for a tour of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, followed by a reception and a visit to the Kenworth Chillicothe manufacturing plant, where the finalists’ names will be revealed. Public voting for the finalists will run from November 1 to 11. The final award announcement will take place at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on December 13, where the winner will receive the Kenworth T680.
