Three Electronic Logging Devices Removed from FMCSA’s Approved List

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has officially revoked three electronic logging devices (ELDs) from its registry, meaning carriers and drivers using them must make a switch.

According to the agency, the following devices are no longer compliant with FMCSA requirements:

ELOG42 | Model Number: ERS | ELD Identifier: ERS156 | Provider: Leko Inc

RENAISSANCE ELD | Model Number: RNSSNC | ELD Identifier: RNS592 | Provider: Renaissance ELD

The decision took effect on September 4, 2025, after FMCSA determined these devices did not meet the agency’s minimum standards.

What drivers and carriers need to know

Motor carriers currently using any of the revoked devices have a 60-day grace period to transition to a compliant solution. That deadline falls on November 3, 2025.

In the meantime, FMCSA has provided clear instructions:

  • Stop using the revoked ELDs and switch temporarily to paper logs or logging software to record hours of service.
  • Install and begin using an approved ELD from FMCSA’s Registered Devices list before the November deadline.

Until November 3, enforcement officers have been asked to show flexibility. Instead of issuing citations for “No record of duty status” or “Failing to use a registered ELD,” they are expected to review hours-of-service information through paper logs, logging software, or by using the ELD display as a backup method.

However, once the November cutoff arrives, the rules tighten. Any carrier still operating with one of the revoked devices will be considered as operating without an ELD, and drivers may be placed out-of-service under the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance OOS criteria.

Possible reinstatement

FMCSA stated that if the providers resolve the issues with their devices, the products may be reinstated on the Registered Devices list. If that occurs, the industry will be notified.
