Terry Reavis, a truck driver from Toney, Alabama has been honored by the Truckload Carriers Association as a Highway Angel for his heroic display of highway heroism. Driving for Maverick Transportation in North Little Rock Arkansas at the time, Reavis stopped to lend aid when he happened upon an SUV that had collided with a pickup truck while backing up on a highway.
In the afternoon of February 19 tragedy struck when a multi-vehicle crash unfolded in front of Reavis as he was traveling on I-95 near Brunswick, Georgia. A pickup truck abruptly reversed across three lanes of traffic until it was t-boned by an SUV that crashed so hard its rear wheels lifted off the ground and another vehicle went underneath it while one woman ejected through her windshield.
“It was the worst wreck I’ve seen in my 27 years as a trucker,” said Reavis.
Reavis wasted no time when he noticed the crash, quickly activating his dash cam’s record feature and rushing to the scene. An experienced first responder, he immediately began helping three children from the SUV before turning his attention to the ejected woman with serious injuries. He focused on stopping the bleeding while working to keep her calm, cradling her in his lap until emergency personnel arrived.
“I stopped because it’s what I was taught,” he said. “Treat people the way you would want to be treated.”
Fortunately, there were no fatalities from the accident.
