The cost of diesel continues to rise for the eighth consecutive week, with an increase of 4.8 cents. As per the latest data from the Energy Information Administration, the national average diesel price has reached $4.54 per gallon. This spike in fuel prices is a major concern for the trucking industry, impacting their operations and expenses significantly.
Here’s what you should know:
- Diesel prices have been steadily increasing for eight consecutive weeks, with a total increase of 73.4 cents.
- The most recent drop in diesel prices was a 3.9-cent decrease on July 10.
- On average, a gallon of diesel now costs 49.3 cents less than it did in 2022.
- In the weekly survey conducted by the EIA, the average price of diesel increased in nine out of ten regions, with the exception being a slight decrease in the Lower Atlantic region by two-tenths of a cent. The largest increase of 16.9 cents was seen in California.
- The West Coast, West Coast excluding California, and California are the only regions where the average price of diesel exceeds $5 per gallon.
- The average price of gasoline has slightly increased by 1.5 cents per gallon on average, now costing 13.2 cents more than it did at this time last year.
