Mack Trucks has raised the bar in fleet maintenance by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to power its Premium Service Contract. This cutting-edge integration of AI aims to enhance vehicle performance, minimize downtime, and deliver tailored solutions for small and medium-sized fleet operators.
Smarter Maintenance with AI Technology
Based in Greensboro, N.C., Mack Trucks revealed that the Premium Service Contract now includes adaptive maintenance powered by AI. According to the company, this technology dynamically adjusts maintenance intervals by analyzing real-time operational data, including fuel consumption, engine hours, idle times, and oil usage. This personalization ensures that maintenance is scheduled precisely when it’s needed—neither prematurely nor too late—optimizing the entire process for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
“Utilizing AI, which constantly consumes connected customer data, Mack is able to adjust in real-time maintenance schedules and needs best for the truck and our customers’ operations,” explained Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America. “Adaptive maintenance, including time-based or mile-based engine hours, triggers the dealer to schedule maintenance at the appropriate time, reducing downtime.”
Features of the Mack Premium Service Contract
The Premium Service Contract offers fleet operators a range of benefits designed to improve convenience, cost management, and vehicle reliability. Key highlights include:
- Proactive Maintenance Scheduling – AI determines the right time for servicing based on actual operational data, ensuring no unnecessary stops.
- Single Contact Point – Customers work directly with a local dealer representative for maintenance scheduling and management.
- Predictable Costs – Fixed pricing for parts and labor ensures budget consistency across all maintenance activities.
- Improved Vehicle Health – Adaptive maintenance encourages long-term vehicle reliability and superior performance by catering to each fleet’s unique needs.
- Certified Uptime Dealer Network – Consistent repair quality is guaranteed through Mack’s Certified Uptime Dealers.
Mike Furst, director of contract services and business technology solutions, provided an example of how this system works. “When AI detects that the truck needs to receive a valve adjustment at 150,000 miles and an oil change at 120,000 miles, then the truck is serviced at 120,000 miles to reduce an additional stop,” he noted.
