Peruvian truckers strike, state of emergency declared

Truckers around the world have been on strike for different reasons. Peruvian truckers are striking in the City of Callao due to recent “economic woes”. This is not the first time we are hearing about the Russia and Ukraine conflict creating immense economic impact, especially on fuel costs. It has had a global impact reaching all the way to Peru.

Truckers took matters into their own hands and filled a highway near the port city of Callao. Yahoo News reported that “the annual inflation rate remains at around 8%, its highest level in 24 years”. They are currently in a state of emergency. There will be police and members of the army deployed throughout the country’s roads in areas that are at high risk for blockages. Freight transport union leader Ivan Valencia has been speaking and leading efforts on the matter in Callao, Peru.
