Texas expands truck inspections as death toll rises in migrant smuggling case

We recently reported on the clone truck reported in San Antonio of dead migrants found. The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, announced he will be implementing more new checkpoints run by the state with the purpose of inspecting trucks for potential human trafficking incidents. Freight Waves reported that “Abbot declined to say where the new checkpoints will be, saying he wanted to ‘surprise the cartels and the smugglers’”.

We don’t know how these checkpoints will be different from the ones that were launched by Abbott in April. He ordered a commercial vehicle inspection expansion to address and slow migrant crossings. There were 20 international crossing locations implemented throughout the state of Texas. Some of these increased truck checks were slowed when several Mexican governors committed to better secure the U.S. – Mexico border. See what we do know about these new inspections.
