Too much to handle: Suspect attempts to steal big rig, faces gunfire from law enforcement

A man who allegedly tried to steal a semitruck reportedly fired on police in an incident April 18 in Garden City, Georgia.

 

Garden City Police told WJCL in Savannah, Ga., as well as The Trucker, that they were called to the scene following a report of a man trying to steal a semi-truck. Police say the man found a firearm inside the truck and refused to exit the vehicle when ordered. The Savannah Police SWAT Team was called in to assist in apprehending the man.

 

After law enforcement’s arrival, the man fired the gun, which resulted in the officers returning fire. WJCL reported that a standoff ensued. With the assistance of SWAT members, officers were able to take the man into custody and transport him to the hospital by ambulance for minor injuries and mental evaluation.

 

Officers at the scene were also checked out by EMS crews for very minor injuries. The chief added that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation since an officer fired their weapon.
