Transform Snowplows into Art with ODOT District 2’s Paint-the-Plow Contest

Wauseon High School students pose with their 2024 ODOT Paint-the Plow entry, "Ice & Snow, Take It Slow!"

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 2 is inviting local schools to participate in its renowned Paint-the-Plow contest. This annual tradition provides students with a unique opportunity to transform ODOT snowplow blades into powerful works of art that showcase community pride, creativity, and important safety messages.

A Creative Opportunity for Students

Through the Paint-the-Plow program, participating students paint an ODOT snowplow blade with themes such as school spirit, Ohio pride, patriotism, or road safety. These beautifully painted plows go on to be displayed at community events before joining ODOT’s fleet for winter operations, spreading both color and positive messages across the region.

Area schools and vocational groups in the eight-county region covered by District 2—Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams, and Wood counties—are encouraged to sign up. The deadline to submit applications is Sunday, March 16.

Important Dates to Remember

  • Plow Blade Delivery: ODOT will drop off plow blades at participating schools during the week of April 1.
  • Plow Blade Collection: Completed blades will be picked up by May 16.
  • Contest Winners Announcement: Winners will be revealed on ODOT District 2’s social media platforms before Memorial Day.

Celebrating Creativity and Community

Winners from last year set a high standard, with Bowling Green High School capturing the People’s Choice Award through Facebook votes. Patrick-Henry High School earned the prestigious ODOT Choice Award, selected by District 2 administrators.
