Truck driving industry makes huge donation to relief fund for truck drivers

If you visited a TravelCenters of America location between July 1 and Aug. 30 and rounded up your total, you were part of a six-figure donation campaign for truck drivers. On Nov. 10, TravelCenters of America announced that their yearly round-up collected $101,000 toward donation efforts for the St. Christopher’s Truckers Relief Fund, as reported by Truckers News.

The round-up campaign gave customers the chance to round their total at the cashier’s counter to the nearest full dollar, with the intent of donating 100% of the round-up amount to the St. Christopher’s Truckers Relief Funds. The campaign took place at TravelCenters of America, Petro, and TravelCenters of America Express locations.

The St. Christopher’s Truckers Relief Fund is paramount to the support the trucking industry selflessly gives to those who make up the industry, and in turn, keep America and its economy running smoothly. It is a non-profit fund that provides financial assistance and support to drivers and their families in times of need. The fund identifies truck driving families who are not able to get behind the wheel due to injury or illness and need financial support. Now, there is an additional $101,000 to give to families in need.

Donna Kennedy is the executive director of the fund and feels appreciative of everyone who made the campaign such a success.

“We are so thankful for TA and their guests for supporting truck drivers through the Round Up campaign,” Kennedy said.

This year’s six-figure contribution adds to the nearly $3 million total raised for the fund at TravelCenters of America locations since they partnered with the fund in 2010. It takes each person donating a small amount of money in order to make an immense change in the lives of those who need it.

“As you can see from the total donated, each person’s few cents collectively make a huge impact on the SCF’s ability to continue providing assistance to our highway heroes,” Kennedy said. “We are grateful to everyone that helped make this campaign a success.”
