Hours regulations waived for shipments of baby formula

With the baby formula shortage being felt across the country, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued “an hours-of-service waiver for those hauling baby formula and any manufacturing related ingredients.” This is a temporary waive for HOS requirements until items like formula, corn syrup, whey and more can get to where they are needed. The baby formula shortage is a result of the FDA closure of the Abbot Nutrition’s plant in Sturgis, Michigan. According to Over Driver Online, “infants were contracting bacterial infections from formula made there”. In response, President Biden has invoked the Defense Production Act which will increase the production of baby formula. It will require suppliers to direct ingredients to baby formula manufacturers as a priority.
